Bourne 1 King's Lynn Youth 1
Lynn Youths opened their E.C.L. Youth League (Northern Section) programme
with a visit to Abbey Lawn to play Bourne Town. For this campaign Lynn will
be fielding a very young side. Bourne had the first chance on 8 mins. Eleer
hit the post following a corner.
On an ideal evening for football, play was end to end with both goalkeepers
being called upon to make saves. The lively Alex Vincent set up a chance, but
no Lynn player could find a final touch. 2 mins. later Bryn Schmuda shot
just wide for Lynn.
Bourne took the lead on 25 mins. when their speedy centre forward, Jones
broke through and lobbed the advancing Tom Rix from 20 yards. Edwards then
tested Rix with a fierce drive from 25 yards which the 'keeper punched over.
Lynn had a great chance to level matters in the 32nd.min. when Rawlings was
brought down in the area. Bourne 'keeper, Houghton made a good save to deny
Chris West from the spot. Just before the interval, Bryn Schmuda had a chance, but his
shot swerved just outside the post. Half time: Bourne 1, Kings Lynn 0.
The second half began with Bourne still causing danger from corners. A
' free' header being cleared off the line with some difficulty. Lynn were now coming more
into the game and several promising moves only broke down as they neared
goal. Vincent then set up a chance for Nicholls, who drilled his shot into the 'keeper's
midriff. Another good move down the Lynn left ended with West shooting just wide.
Bourne responded and Jones, having miskicked his first effort, then saw his
second effort well saved low down by Rix. Lynn were still searching for the
equaliser when Sam Gaughran headed over a great chance set up by Vincent. The goal
eventually came in stoppage time when Chris West produced a shot from
distance that found its way into the bottom corner for a deserved leveller.
Bourne had one last chance to win the game, but Jones hit the post with Rix
beaten.
All in all a far result: Bourne Town 1, Kings Lynn 1, att. 55.
Team: Rix, Glendinning, Hooks, Spittlehouse, Gaughran, Drawbridge, Rawlings,
Nicholls, West, Vincent, Schmuda. Subs: Supp (Glendinning), Browning (Schmuda), Moore

King's Lynn 3 Stamford 1
Lynn got off to the best possible start when Jack Defty converted a cross from Matt O'Halloran on 34 seconds.
The game then became something of an end-to-end affair with Cooper having one
of Lynn's best chances - his shot being blocked on 20 minutes.
Stamford were back on level terms on 33 minutes when Marshall failed to hold a corner and could only direct the ball to the far
side for Stamford's Robbie Greetham to equalise.
For the remainder of the half Lynn dominated but a goalmouth scramble could only
result in a corner from which the ball pinged around the area before being
cleared.
Two goals in as many minutes in the second half put the game beyond the visitors' reach.
On 50 minutes a West free kick 2 yards into the Stamford half found Nolan in the area and he set up Mark Warren to score.
A minute later Jack Defty lobbed the keeper to secure the points.
The appearance of ex-Linnet Mark Angel as substitute entertained a section of the crowd who gave
him a torrid time but although Stamford looked
for ways of getting back into the game the rarely threatened the Lynn goal.
Lynn could have gone further ahead with a Jack Defty header forcing Pledger into
a good save on 78 minutes who then did well to deny Lynn from the resulting
corner.
Lynn: Marshall, West, Smith, Warren, Camm, Cooper, J Defty (Frew), McMahon
(Carey), Nolan, Kennedy (Toms), O'Halloran
Saturday 26 August
Maidenhead United 1 King's Lynn 1
Paul Atkins, in his last match before suspension, gave Lynn the lead on 3
minutes after good work between Toms and Defty - the ball being deflected into
the net by Dominic Stirling.
New signing - former Weymouth striker, Craig O'Connor , caused problems for Lynn
whilst on 25 minutes Atkins fired just over.
On the restart Frew turned a shot just wide whilst Dean West's body blocked a
shot from Dominic Stirling.
On 76 minutes Maidenhead equalised when Mark Nesbet scored his first goal for
the Magpies after a good build-up involving O'Connor .
Lynn defended in depth but it was they who had the last chance with Maidstone
'keeper Francisco Ramos denying McMahon
Lynn: Marshall, West, Smith, Warren, Cooper, Carey, Atkins (McMahon 54 ), Camm,
Jack Defty (O'Halloran 69), Frew (Nolan 75), Toms, Unused Substitute:
Kennedy, Charlie Defty. Att: 257
King's Lynn 5 Ipswich Wanderers 2
Lynn lost at home to Harwich - Ipswich thrashed Harwich 8-1.
On paper this match should have been over before it began. Football, however, is not like that and the 118 who saw this game were given a treat as it ebbed and flowed.
The first twenty minutes belonged to Lynn with Notman putting a free kick out of the ground on two minutes and Cussons putting a shot wide and Hyde heading over.
The visitors then began to dominate shooting over and on one
occasion
rounding Higgs but managing to put the ball wide.
Lynn took the lead on 38 minutes when an Alex Notman cross set up Luke Fell to score.
The second half produced more of the same with Lynn having the opening chances falling to Fell, who had a header saved, and then Notman who shot wide. On 53 minutes an Ed Cussons free kick went narrowly wide.
Back came Ipswich and there were shades of of the Wroxham match as John
Higgs pulled off two fine saves in as many minutes.
On 63 minutes Lynn went further ahead when Lee Hyde broke down an Ipswich attack and his long ball upfield went to Luke Fell who rounded the keeper to score.
On 76 minutes Lynn went three up when Notman shot home from 22 yards.
In the next minute Ipswich pulled a goal back from close range through Dean Tournay-Godfrey and four minutes later Rene Swann made it 3-2.
On 86 minutes Dean Miller started a run in the Lynn half and rounded two
Ipswich defenders and the keeper before scoring.
Dom Dwyer, on for Liam Forshaw for the last 25 minutes,- looked determined to score in what was his last game for the club but had to wait until deep into injury time. Then he was bought down by the Ipswich keeper and scored from the
resultant penalty.

Lynn 0 Halesowen 2
Without the first choice defensive pairing of Mark Warren and Grant Cooper it was always known that the visit of Halesowen would be a stern test.
It was, however, the failure at the other end of the field that was of more concern.
Lynn started brightly with the ball being played around the field and Lynn winning a succession of corners and a 12th minute Adam Smith free kick going over.
On 18 minutes, however, Lynn were given a warning when Lee Williams missed a simple tap in for the visitors, putting the ball wide of the far post.
On 26 minutes Alex Cowley also put the ball to the right of Shaun Marshall's goal when he should have done better.
A minute later Simon Forsdick fired home after a defensive error which had seen
a Williams' shot fall nicely to him off a defender.
The second half produced more of the same with the ball spending more time in the Halesowen half but apart from a Jack Defty shot that went over and a Lee Hyde header that also went high there was nothing to pressure Mark Gayle.
It wasn't that Halesowen were getting many attacking chances but more that when
they did go forward they were getting through on goal too easily. Matthew Lewis
being an example who was only denied by some fine retrieval work from Adam
Smith.
Lewis was not to be denied and on 62 minutes a Lynn attack broke down and a Dean West sliding challenge on Matthew Lewis as he shot could only help the ball into the net.
Halesowen spent the last five minutes playing keep-ball in the Lynn corners which, apart from frustrating, was not necessary as Lynn looked incapable of scoring.
Lynn: Marshall, West, Smith, Hyde (Toms), Camm, McMahon (Kennedy), Defty, Carey, Nolan, Atkins (Frew), O'Halloran.

Reserves get a point in Duncan McAnally show.
Wroxham 1 Lynn Reserves 1
Lynn were without Charlie Defty and Luke Fell but included Alex Notman who is
being assessed by the club in a five game spell.
It was Notman who had Lynn's best chance of the opening exchanges when he hit
the bar on 6 minutes but basically the first half saw wave after wave of home
attack whose efforts were denied by Duncan McAnally who pulled off a string of
saves. Then on 34 minutes Ed Cussons was fouled and his free kick from some 25
yards gave Lynn the lead. Two minutes later it was back to the Duncan
McAnally show with another fine save to deny Fox.
The second half was in similar vein although Wroxham, despite dominating, were
getting fewer shoots on goal. Forshaw shot over for Lynn when well placed on 65
minutes and just when it seemed Lynn might survive a free kick was conceded on
the edge of Lynn area. McAnally couldn't hold on to the fierce fee kick and Lee
Gilman was on hand to get a point for The Yachtsmen.
Lynn: McAnally, Gaughran, Buhlemann (West), Cussons, Miller, Gilchrist, Notman (Gillies),
Harvey, Forshaw (Dwyer), Peters, Keegan. Att 142
The club are pleased to report that Mark Warren has found work with a King's Lynn firm and is due to start there later this week.
This should bring to an end speculation of a move back to Fisher Athletic and Mark will be remaining part of Tommy Taylor's squad.

Lynn Reserves 1 Harwich & Parkeston 2
Lynn didn't deserve to lose this season opener against the club that finished second from bottom last season. The trouble is neither team deserved to win.
When Lynn took the lead on 25 minutes it was a fair reflection of their territorial advantage and number of corners won.
Charlie Defty tried to work the ball into the box and was tripped and Liam Forshaw blasted the ball home from the spot.
Two goals in as many minutes, however, saw Lynn go in 2-1 down at half time. A corner from Lynn's right was not cleared and the ball was headed onto the bar and then a simple tap in resulted.
A minute later and Duncan McNally was lobbed to give the visitors the lead.
Lynn came back with Luke Fell shooting over on 40 minutes and Stephen Harvey having a header drifting wide of the post two minutes before half-time.
The second half started with a Sam Gaughran shot being blocked in the first minute but efforts on goal were seldom seen from either side.
McNally did well to prevent The Shrimpers going three up on 77 minutes whilst Fell once again shot over when well placed but under pressure.
The introduction of Chris West added a little pace to Lynn efforts going forward but the Harwich keeper was never called upon to exert himself.
On this showing both teams will struggle this season.
Lynn: McAnally, Buhlemann, Cussons (Davis), Gaughran, C Defty, Miller, Gillies (Keegan), Harvey, Forshaw, Peters (West), Fell. Att 122
In Lynn's final first team friendly match they went down 4-2 to Grantham Town. Fraser Toms and Lee Hyde scoring.

They Come - They Go - They Return ?
Lynn fans have certainly been shown what could be so far in
the pre-season games with performances from the likes of Ashley Nichols and the
possibility of the return of Louis Blois and the signing of Boston winger Rob
Norris
But the lure of playing in a higher grade or of higher
wages or less travelling - or any combination of these has not helped manager
Tommy Taylor's preparations for the forthcoming season.
Despite signing Southern League forms for Lynn Rob
Norris has opted for St Albans whilst Ashley Nichols has signed for Grays.
Aaron Benstead has been loaned to Ridgeons' League Haverhill Rovers whilst Louis Blois has signed for Mildenhall Town .
Meanwhile former Norwich City striker Alex Notman is
set for a run-out against Grantham on Saturday along with Lewis Brooks and
Frazer Toms.
Notman played 30 minutes in the Lynn v Folkestone draw in January 2004
when he replaced Dale Watkins but could not continue his his involvement at The
Walks as he had a reaction to playing.
Defender Lewis Brooks was released from Boston United during the summer having
spent a spell last season on work experience at Alfreton for whom he made five
appearances.
Frazer Toms started his career with Charlton and spent four years with Barnet
before moving on to St Albans and Farnborough. The left sided midfielder played
against Lynn last season when Northwood were the visitors.
23 July - 30 July 2006
Chris Watts
It is with great sadness that the club heard of the death
of Chris Watts.
Chris made over 480 appearances for Lynn between 1978 and
1987 and was Player of the Year on two occasions. His enthusiasm for the game
was admirable and infectious. Our
condolences and thoughts go to Chris' wife Pat and his family at this sad time.
A full list of Chris' appearances can be found in the Archive
here.
16 July - 22 July 2006
Goalkeeper Shaun Marshall
has signed Southern League forms with Lynn. Born in Fakenham (10/10/78) and now
based in Downham he started his career as a trainee with Cambridge United in 1992 and went on to make over 170 appearances. He went on loan to Stevenage at the beginning of 2005 and then moved on to Notts County in August 2005 as cover for
Kevin Pilkington but was restricted to two appearances, one in the league.. He then went on trial at Torquay United but was once again told he would be second choice.
8 July - 15 July 2006
Lynn get home start
Lynn's season will kick off at The Walks on Saturday 19th August with Halesowen Town as the visitors - their first home start since the 2001-02 season. Trips to Hitchin and Maidenhead follow before the home clash with Stamford on the August Bank Holiday Monday.
Boxing Day see Lynn make the return trip to Stamford while Rugby Town
provide the opposition at The Walks on New Year's Day with the return at
Rugby on Easter Monday.
25 June - 8 July 2006
Lynn have signed central defender Mark Warren.
Born in Clapton and now based in Wisbech, the 31 year old's (b. 12.11.74) career started as a trainee at Leyton Orient where he went on to make 189 appearances in a six year period before moving to Oxford United for a brief
loan spell and then to Notts County in January 1999.
A further 100 appearances later subsequently resulted in moves to Colchester United and then Southend United
before signing for Fisher Athletic in July 2004.
A main stay at the heart of the Fisher defence in his first season was
followed up by a injury hit campaign, making only 7 appearances
although, importantly, two of these were in the league play-offs at the
end of the season.
Unfortunately one of those appearances saw him receive two yellow cards (against Chelmsford City) and he will be
suspended for the opening game of Lynn's season along with fellow central defender Grant Cooper.
CUP DRAWS
The cup draws have once again not been too kind to Lynn in that they must begin their campaigns by travelling.
FA CUP
Away to Hillingdon Borough (the 2006 FA Vase finalists) or Tring Athletic or Diss Town (Saturday 16 September)
FA TROPHY
Away to Worthing (and a reunion with Chuck Martini?) (Saturday 21 October)
FA YOUTH CUP
Home to Whitton United.
If successful - home to Ipswich Wanderers.
If successful - home to one of: Lowestoft Town, Huntingdon Town, Grantham Town, Dereham Town, Stowmarket Town.
17 June - 24 June 2006
Lynn have signed 21 year old (b.08/08/84) Michael Frew
on release from Nuneaton Borough. No stranger to Lynn fans, he has played
against Lynn in pre-season friendlies when Yaxley and Lincoln City have provided
the opposition. Frew scored seven goals for Nuneaton last season before moving
on to Hucknall in March this year where he scored another three.
In the Ridgeons' League Cup Lynn Reserves will travel to Downham Market in
the Preliminary Round of the competition (w/b 2 Oct) and, if successful, will
entertain Dereham Town or Great Yarmouth Town in the First Round (w/b 23 Oct).
9 June - 16 June 2006
On returning from a brief break, Lynn manager Tommy Taylor was told that he may be losing two of his local players. The Defty brothers, Jack and Charlie, have not indicated that they will be returning for pre-season training and are both linked with a move to Ridgeons' League Division One Swaffham Town. Also linked with Swaffham is ex-Linnet Gary Setchell who is assistant manager with The Pedlars.
This, however, has proved false and Charlie Defty will be attending the first training session whilst the holidaying Jack has indicated that he is happy to stay with the club.
Lowestoft defender Greg Crane, Norwich United striker Paul Atkins, Cambridge City midfielder Luke Kennedy and goalkeeper Danny Knowles, a youth product of Gillingham who has just moved into the area, will all be involved pre-season.
1 June - 8 June 2006
Matt Nolan has signed Southern League forms for Lynn.
"I didn't see any reason to go elsewhere," he said. "I'm happy with the team. I like the manager, I like the fans, so it's not a hard decision to make."
A number of clubs had been linked with Lynn's 15 goal striker - including Bedford Town who could offer Conference South football and less travelling.
Nolan, who has already played at that level with Cambridge City and St Albans, said he sees little difference in the standard.
NOT joining Lynn is Liam Harrold who had agreed to stay with Wisbech who have also recruited ex-Linnet Lee Hudson.
20-31 May 2006
Adam Jones looks likely to be playing against Lynn in the 2006-07 season rather than for them.
Playing in a 135 matches in a four year spell for Lynn, Jones had not figured as much last season and had not been invited back for pre-season training.
The Peterborough based player is likely to be playing for newly promoted Stamford next season along with Mark Angel and possibly Robbie Harris.
Shaun Carey will be staying at The Walks after all. Less than a week after it was announced that he could be leaving because of financial reasons, a sponsor has been found and a deal put in place to keep the influential ex-Norwich midfielder at Lynn.
19 May 2006
It has been announced that Cedric Anselin and Shaun Carey could be leaving the club - the latter for financial reasons, the player's
expenses being previously met through sponsorship. Anselin, although released, has
been invited to take part in pre-season training.
Manager Tommy Taylor continues to target strikers on his shopping list with Wisbech's Liam Harrold on the most wanted list whilst talks continue with Matt Nolan.
Other players who could feature in pre-season include Michael Frew - a name not unfamiliar to Lynn fans as he was being tipped as one to look at when he was playing for Yaxley. Since then the former Peterborough United player has had trials with Lincoln City and been playing for Nuneaton - ending last season at Hucknall.
Cambridge City midfielder Luke Kennedy and Lowestoft's ex-Norwich City scholar Greg Crane have also been invited to train pre-season whilst Adam Gusterson and Lee Howlett who signed late last season are also expected to attend.
Other names include 'keeper Shaun Marshall following his release from Notts County. and Gillingham youth product Danny Knowles, who is moving into the area. Knowles
spent three months on loan at Ryman Premier outfit East Thurrock last season.
14 May 2006
The Linnets have announced admission prices for the 2006/07 season which sees the first price rise for four years. The prices will be £9 for adults, a rise of £2, and £5 for concessions, an increase of £1.
There will still be an extra charge of £1 for anyone who wishes to sit in the main stand.
Season tickets are priced as follows: Ground only, £155 adults, £90 concessions; main stand £170 adults and £105 concessions.
A season ticket includes all pre-season friendlies and any end-of-season play-off matches, if required.
Prices for a vice-president have also been raised to £450.
12 May 2006
Despite rumours and speculation to the contrary, Lynn will be staying in the Southern League for the 2006-07 season.
Lynn get one new league opponent in the 2006-07 season in the shape of Maidenhead United whilst Wealdstone return to the Southern League - Lynn last having played them in the 1971-72 season. Lynn did meet Maidenhead United in the FA Trophy in the 1983-84 season - losing 1-0. One local derby missing will be that against Grantham who have moved into the UniBond League.
