The period of time between the end of one and beginning of a new season seems to get ever shorter? Maybe a figment of my imagination but it would be interesting to see a trend from say the 1960's to present day...................I'll bet there is a very significant shortening of the off season?

Think The ex West Brow Keeper Jimmy Combes played  County Cricket as well.  Ken Taylor wasn't he a school Teacher at Gresham's or Beeston ?

Certainly was; and played Cricket for Norfolk too!!  Excellent artist; but tough competitor who hated cricket; he said overalls off at end of day!!  He hated it for many reasons but one was Close & Trueman cadging lifts to away games.  They each got travel money but used Ken; and gave him nothing!!

New Recruit, you seem to have been around the local scene for a number of years.  What was your take on ex England International Barry Bridges and his time as Manager at Lynn.  Biggest high profile  name that Lynn have had in the hot seat

Very nice man but absolutely lost when it came to management of players.  As the results show he was 'get stuck in; you aren't trying etc.  Must have worked at Chelsea and England!!   But only 6 months at Lynn and Board couldn't afford to pay him after agreeing to it in May of that year.

You may have a point!! His team talks were pretty basic; but very few games were won. An example; against Oxford City in the FA Trophy;  the team was just going out to kick-off it was asked 'who was taking penalties'? Barry asked who wanted too; and Jim Wilson stuck his hand up!!
Losing 1-0 with 5 minutes to go, Lynn got a penalty! Jimmy sent it soaring out of the ground and trudging in after game Barry went loopy and slayed Mick Wright for not taking it himself.
Would you believe that Mick went straight out of the Dressing Room and stood on the terraces for 30 minutes or so!!
He just picked sides; said get stuck in and if the team struggled he said they weren't trying.
Lost to Parson Drove (FA Cup) after battering them; said to Clive Adams; 'you aren't trying'.  His response was to run with the ball all the time to be got at by this Peterborough Lge team and they lost in last 10 minutes 1-0. Battered Parson Drove but no ability to break defence down!!

NR I of course bow to your  greater knowledge of years gone by, and all things Kings Lynn FC.  Seems to be always an issue when ex pro's come to the club as manager.... Bridges, Mendham, Spearing to name a few.

Who would you list NR as the top 3 men in Charge, when relating it to budget, development and general welfare of the Club... Doesn't have to run side by side with success.

I think that at one time it was assumed that a great footballer would automatically make a great manager................Absolutely no reason why that should be the case as has been proven many times over.

No hard and fast rules about great players making great managers.  Bobby Charlton and Bobby Moore, never cut it on the managerial front.  Yet people like Graham Taylor, Jose Mourinho  not great players but certainly made it as Managers.

Too true.....

The press secretary at my old club was also the club secretary for Dulwich Cricket Club.  We never had any news coverage or even a programme on occasions until the season was 6 weeks old!

The Best;   Len Richley; Reg Davies; Frank Wignall; Peter Morris;

Scarey Lunes;      Laurie Brown; (Cliff Jones came to Club as he was close to Reg Davies; as soon as Brown came to Club, Cliff said 'I'm gone'!!  Went to Gloucester and the pitch was mud personified.  Lynn played in all White and at the end of the game Cliff was as clean as at start. Went to Bedford next week!! Great story of when Brown went to Spurs from Arsenal; PLAYING Arsenal He MARKED Ian Ure and said he would BATTER HIM!!  15mins in Ure  had 2 goals from corners!!    Cliff said the players gave him almighty stick
  Tommy Taylor;  Jim White;

Surprised to see the name Tommy Taylor on your List NR, I thought the guy did a decent job.  Had a decent budget admittedly, but did deliver.

What was your thoughts/stories on the likes of Colin Foster and Gary Mills ?

Maybe NR you should write all these little bits and pieces down NR, they sure making interesting ready to some of us...

Anyone else have any thoughts ?
