A trip To Ghana to coach football
« on: May 31, 2012, 09:08:46 AM »
A COMMUNITY football coach working with children in the Swaffham area will be flying to Ghana on Monday to help with the development of a football club in the capital, Accra.

Matthew Parkinson, King’s Lynn Community Football coach and area manager for Swaffham and Litcham, will be spending four weeks with Cantonments FC, coaching its youth academy and two senior second and third division teams.

He will then head straight to New Zealand and the world class training facilities of the Asia Pacific Football Academy, who work in association with 2012 European champions Chelsea FC.

I'm glad you're sharing this, Julian. What an experience for the young man. (Too bad Little John doesn't blog on his travels. That would be entertaining too)

For another perspective on "the beautiful game" in Africa, see http://www.jessicahilltout.com/collections/amen.html. It's the work of an amazing photographer and philanthropist. You won't regret spending some time looking through the pages of images and narratives on the verious parts of the website and it might even encourage you to go here (via the Blue and Gold link, of course!): http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0620466677/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller= for a copy of her super book.

I couldn't find it when I first looked, but the real gem of the Hilltout site is this: http://www.jessicahilltout.com/roadbook/.

If you have the patience to let it all load (and even the way the start page changes as the photos load is clever), you get this amazingly-rich interactive "book."

Matt's continuing to add to his blog, I see. I loved his descripton of "punters pulling on your arms" in the market and the "English-style items" he bought for lunch!
