Cary, I signed for Wembley in the 50's but never played a game. I had joined Southall in the Athenian league having left Erith & Belvedere in the summer I was having a problem getting in the first so wanted away, they said Wembley or Harrow were looking for a keeper and chose to go to Wembley when I arrived they told me their keeper had such a good previous game and didn't want to drop him. So I watched the next game at home which ironically was against E & B, Wembley won 6-0 and I ended up going back to E & B. Oh to be young again I lived 1/2 hr. from Wembley and 2 hrs from E & B but would have travlled anywhere to play.

Rosey, some ex pros have done ok for us.  Its the ones who still have a hunger for the game, not those who see it as an easy few quid.

Thanks for that Bodger, it seems you were custodian for many a club in the Sarf, how come you ended up in sunny  county of Norfolk, following the mighty Linnets ?

Cary, Played southern league football for Ramsgate, Deal and Dunstable finished having been retained by Dunstable but was climbing the greasy pole at work and travelling mid week would have been a problem. Out of interest have dug out an old programme 1963 against Lynn at the Walks lost 3-0 Bacon 1, Watkin 2. Don't remember throwing any in
Lynn being the nearest "Old" Southern league team hence the reason for the football anyway.
I looked up on the Archives Gate that day 1723.
