Both clubs had seen players arrive and depart during the week with Blyth going into the game with new arrivals Jack Lambert and Ben Harmison in the starting line-up and Jordan Summerly on the bench whilst Lynn’s new signing, Dayle Southwell had to be content with a second half cameo role.
Lynn started brightly with an early Michael Gash lob catching Zach Hemming off his line but the home ’keeper managed to recover.
Chris Henderson was next to try his luck with a header that forced a superb save.
Lynn took the lead on 13 minutes, Gash winning the ball and playing it over the top for Adam Marriott to finish.
Five minutes later Lynn doubled their led with Marriott benefitting from great work from Simon Power turning a defender before laying the ball into the path of Marriott who couldn’t miss from six yards.
Further chances fell to Lynn. On 20 minutes Power side footed past Hemming’s near post and then Marriott went close to completing his hat trick on 28 minutes but was denied by Hemming who managed to turn the ball away
The home side recovered and controlled the last 15 minutes of the first half. On 31 minutes Scott Wilson put in a dipping shot following Robbie Dale’s corner but the ball ended up on the roof of the net rather than in it.
Harmison then got on the end of a Rhys Evans whipped cross but his header drifted past the bottom left corner.
Just before the break Dale got the better of Nathan Fox and his low shot was scrambled away by Street with the home side appealing for a penalty for a foul on Hawkins.
With four minutes of the first half remaining Kris Thackray got on the end of a ball following a corner but Street was equal to his powerful shot.
Lynn resumed their dominance in the second half ending hopes of the Blyth comeback. A Jones corner was nearly turned into his own net by Mark Waddington and then on 61 minutes Rory McAuley headed home from Aaron Jones’ corner.
The homes sides best chance of a consolation came from the boot of Lewis Hawkins but his shot was deflected into the side netting while at the other end Jones shot wide from twelve yards and there were late chances for Marriott and McAuley.
