Lynn’s largest league gate since the visit on Sheffield in April 2013 saw an excellent exhibition of football on Non-League Day.
Lynn were given the perfect start on 66 seconds. A pass from Michael Clunan failed to find Michael Gash and it should have been a simple task for visiting ’keeper Russ Griffiths but his clearance fell to Adam Marriott to fire Lynn ahead.
The next chance fell to Rory McAuley following a short corner which saw Clunan’s cross headed just wide.
Lynn lost Chris Smith on 20 minutes with a suspected dislocated elbow following an accidental fall.
A further chance fell to Lynn on the half hour. Marriott got on the end of Gash’s chipped pass but he shot over.
Chester saw a lot of the ball but failed to create anything of note in the final third although they did begin to threaten towards the end of the half but their chances saw Brad Jackson fire over from the edge of the box and David Livesey head straight at Alex Street on 38 minutes.
The threat became a reality with two second half goals in six minutes. The equaliser came on 56 minutes Simon Grand scoring from close range following a Matty Hughes cross from the right then a repeat of the move
two minutes after the hour, this time Jackson crossing into the area for Akwasi Asante to sweep home his 12th of the season.
Lynn got a deserved equaliser on 76 minutes when Marriott, with his back to goal, chested down Ross Barrows’s cross and turned to fire home to bring his total to 41 goals from his 52 appearances.
There were still chances for both sides to claim all three points. Marriott shot just wide of the post while George Glendon and Joel Taylor had half chances for the visitors.
