Lynn went into this game without the injured Chris Smith, Ryan Fryatt, Michael Clunan and Sam Kelly while Ryan Jarvis was suspended. To add to their woes was injury
to Rory McAuley in the warm-up. Visiting Spennymoor’s radio commentators expressed hopes that with Lynn’s weakened team and the Walks outfit having conceded the most goals of those in the top six that they could get something from this game.
The reality, however, was that despite the home sides lack of numbers, those players the took the field were quite capable of putting in a good account of themselves.
Lynn began brightly and an error from visiting ’keeper Matt Gould presented an early chance for Jordan Richards who opted to play in Michael Gash rather than shoot himself and the move broke down.
The visitors hopes of getting something from the game were dealt a blow on fifteen minutes when Stephen Brogan was red-carded having clipped the heels of Chris Henderson and deny him a scoring opportunity.
Lynn tried to take advantage of the extra man but Gould did well to deny Adam Marriott in a one-on-one after Lynn’s leading scorer had been put through by Aaron Jones.
Gash had a couple of chances and just before the break Sonny Carey hit the bar from close in after neat built up between Gash and Henderson.
Lynn were not to be denied and in the last seconds of the half a Jones cross was only parried by Gould to the feet of Ross Barrows to score his first league goal of the season.
Spennymoor started the second half the brighter but failed to produce any real threat and it was Lynn who scored next. The referee allowed play to continue following a challenge on Carey and Marriott was on hand
to score via the upright.
Marriott then saw a shot graze the visitor’s post before scoring his 25th goal of the season, chesting down a cross from Carey and flashing a shot past Gould from close range.
Spennymoor tried for a consolation but Alex Street was equal to the efforts of James Curtis and substitute Mark Anderson.
