Lynn moved back to the top of the league table as they proved to be too strong against play-off hopefuls Southport.
Ryan Hawkins was given his first league start of the season, replacing the suspended Michael Gash.
Southport started on the front foot as might be expected from a team on a run of five straight home league wins and took the lead in the third minute, Devarn Green driving forward, cutting past three Lynn players before shooting past Alex Street from some 25 yards.
On twelve minutes David Morgan went inches wide with a driven shot and then Street palmed away a free kick from Brad Bauress.
Hawkins produced Lynn’s first real chance on twenty minutes when he broke through the home defence to put in a shot which took a deflection and it looked as if Charlie Albinson’s block would not be enough to keep the ball out but Dean Winnard was on hand to make a goalline clearance.
Lynn were beginning to come into the game and on 26 minutes drew level. A Lynn move involving some 21 passes eventually found Adam Marriott on the edge of the box who turned his marker and sent a curling shot into the top right hand corner of the net.
Southport tried to reply on the half hour; a Green clearance finding Raul Correia but his flick on was saved by the fingertips of Street.
The final chances of the half fell to Marriott and Hawkins, the former trying a shot from an acute angle which was palmed away by Albinson and Hawkins’ point-blank header requiring a reflect reaction from the home keeper.
Southport applied early second half pressure but it was Lynn who broke the deadlock on 57 minutes when Sam Kelly’s pin-point pass picked out Chris Henderson who drew the keeper before turning the ball home at the far post.
Michael Clunan then tried a 25 yard free kick on 63 minutes but it didn’t trouble Albinson.
Five minutes later Southport should have done better when a ball from Morgan found Jack Sampson who could only scuff his shot straight at Street.
On 74 minutes Zehn Mohammed hit the Lynn upright with the Lynn defence floundering but the final chance of the game fell to Lynn in stoppage time with Marriott turning three defenders before striking a post.
