Chris Watts |
Signed on August 19th 1978 at the age of 22 by Keith Rudd.
Previous clubs- Gorleston, Norwich City.
Debut v Kettering Town in Southern League Cup (Lost 4-0)
Made 471 appearances under six different managers.
A good "club man", Chris had a nose for football, not so much for scoring
goals - although he managed 45 in his time with Lynn - but for breaking. On no
less than three occasions did he manage to break his nose but seldom did injury
stop him turning out again for the next match. He was knocked out warming up in
the dressing room prior to the 1980 FA Cup tie against Enderby Town but
recovered in time to take to the field and score one of the goals.
Testimonial match in December 1987 v Ipswich. In the programme for this match
Chris gave his all-star Lynn team as: Mick Drewery, Les McJannet, Richard
Johnston, Andy Bircumshaw, Martyn Wiles, Craig Thompson, Mick Wright, David
Burrows, Kevin Ready, Martin Coupe, Martyn Twigger. Manager: Keith Rudd.
Chris died in August 2006 following a three-year battle with motor neurone
disease.
