"Whether Lynn is the most effective combination or not, they certainly cannot claim to be a thoroughly
gentlemanly set of players . . . The fouling was a recurring nuisance, and, it is necessary to explain, was
caused by the Lynn players, mainly the halves, persistently and deliberately bringing down their opponents by
falling in front of them.
EADT following Lynn's victory at Ipswich
Lynn were drawn away to Bristol based Bedminster St Francis but Bedminster were "induced by a round sum "
to play at The Walks field - Lynn believing if they travelled to Bristol they would be out of pocket.
The Lynn team that played in the final which took place on 6th April 1901 was: Gay, Haylock, Girton, Reed,
Stevens, Sporne, Orviss, Holroyd, Macdonald, Horsley, Smith.
Macdonald got the equalising goal for Lynn in front of a 4,000 crowd.
In the replay the following week the same team took to the field although there were some positional changes.
Apparently Lynn were never in it and Crook missed a penalty and had a goal disallowed. The match was played in
appalling conditions - not helped in that immediately followed a Norfolk & Suffolk League match between
Ipswich and Yarmouth Town. There were 1,500 in attendance and Lynn wore black arm bands in memory of former
player Arthur Murrell who had died that week.
