Southport 2 Lynn 1

TWO pieces of slack defending brought Lynn’s mini Blue Square North revival to an abrupt end in a feisty encounter at Southport on Saturday.
Michael Frew handed Lynn an early advantage, somewhat against the run of play, but Southport responded with two goals in the space of five first-half minutes to take the points.
This result leaves Lynn 12th in the table.
Linnets boss Keith Webb said: "I was disappointed we didn’t get a point out of the game if I’m honest.
"Out of the three sides we’ve played at the top, I think both Tamworth and Harrogate are better than Southport.
"Had we defended better in certain situations I’m in no doubt we could have picked up a point, if not all three.
"We needed to hold onto our goal advantage for longer than we did."
Lynn’s misery was completed by four bookings in a niggly clash with Greg Crane picking up his fifth caution of the season, which will see him miss the home league game against Stafford Rangers at the end of the month.
Ben Chapman received a late yellow card in an incident which sparked heated exchanges between the two benches.
Webb said: "Their lad has tried to do Ben (Chapman) and has ended up coming worse off, but the reaction of the crowd has ended up getting Ben booked."

Southport, who had an early goal ruled out for offside, dominated possession for long periods but were caught on the break in the 11th minute when Frew’s cross took a wicked deflection off home defender Adam Flynn and into the home goal.
But Lynn could only hold onto their advantage for eight minutes when a clever run into the box from Mark Duffy saw him square the ball to Steve Daly to slot home.
The Sandgrounders seized the initiative five minutes later when Ciaran Kilheeney was given both time and space on the edge of the box before seeing his shot creep in inside Scott Howie’s left-hand post.
Lynn were marginally better after the interval.
Southport carved out the first opportunity of the half when Flynn’s header from a Matty McGinn corner flew over the bar.
Lynn’s best chance of the half saw Julian Joachim’s corner find Simon Weaver, whose header was somehow scrambled off the line by a number of home defenders.
Duffy gave Chapman a torrid afternoon and, after leaving the Lynn defender in his wake, his cross picked out McGinn, whose header went straight into the arms of Howie.
