SOME 0-0 draws are full of incident: fantastic saves; goalmouth scrambles, penalty misses, sendings-off. This was not one of them.
If this was a game of chess, both sides Would accepted a draw way before the end.
But at least this low-key ’bore draw’ halted a run of three successive defeats.
It also, marked Linnets’ fist clean sheet of the season, coincidentally when defender Glen Fuff and keeper Chuck Martini played their 100th games for the club.
This was the lowest home crowd of the season and fans jeered the team at the end. You can understand their frustration as Lynn failed to break down Folkestone, who were fifth from bottom
Jamie March returned from his knee injury, but absent were Anton Thomas (flu) and Dave Puttnam (groin strain).
One of Lynn’s best chances was provided by the opposition in the fifth minute, Andy Larkin nearly directing a looping header into his own net. From the corner, Lyndon Rowland’s header was somehow pushed around the post by David Wietecha.
After this early burst Lee Wilson, making his first start the year following a broken leg was the one player who was making things happen. He lasted over 70 minutes and his pace and determination will be a big asset when he is fully match fit.
Chuck Martini did his best to provide some incident by rushing out of his area on the half-hour mark, but he was beaten to the ball by James Dryden, who crossed and Stuart White clipped the bar with his header.
In reply, Row land’s 20 yard effort was blocked and Adie Hayes followed up only to be denied by the keeper’s legs.
In first half injury time the tricky Steve Lawrence turned in the box and shot just across the face of goal. Apart from a couple of glancing headers, this was all Invicta-could manage.’’
The lively Wilson went ’so close on the hour mark. Dave Robinson hit a great ball over the top from defence to Simon Dakin, who centred for the sliding Wilson, whose effort was blocked by the keeper.
Linnets could have snatched the game in stoppage time when Tommy Wright sent over a superb cross which Dakin bullet-headed inches over.
