Norwich City 4 Lynn 2

King’s Lynn on Saturday paid their first visit of the season to Norwich City, and the professionals anticipated a hard struggle for no amateur team have done better against the City than have King’s Lynn.
The Lynn teem was: Chamberlain; Rodwell, Hornigold; R. Sporne, Dines, Gemmell; Long, Bannister, Stevens,
Benefer, Ransome. The Linnets were thus short of Martin, Butt,. Taylor and Rout.
The referee was Mr. J. C. Nutchey.
It was very cold and the air was frosty, but a few hundred spectators were present.
Lynn played against a keen wind and kept play open. The amateurs surprised the Canaries and their supporters by early taking the lead, Bannister scoring after five minutes with a nice swerver.
The Lynn defence was good, and few shots reached Chamberlain, who gathered the ball not too confidently.
Still, Jack fired one or two shots rather well, and the Lynn defence prevailed against a lot of attacking.
Led by Long, Lynn put on pressure very nicely, and Stevens, close in, headed a second goal after some good work by Long and after Thompson had twice fisted out The two goals were obtained in the first 12 minutes.
This was good business, but Lynn were not satisfied and other goal was almost a certainty, but Long,
with a clear opening, was badly tripped by Rayner just outside the penalty area.
Lynn had done very, well, but the professionals at last broke through their defence, and in the last l5 minutes the City scored through Lamberton. Dunning (the Cromer crack forward) and Ellis.
Half-time: City 3, Lynn 2.
With the wind in their favour Lynn re-opened strongly. Thompson, who kept a fine goal, cleared a beauty from Bannister.
The City often gave Lynn defence some trouble, Dunning often shooting, but seldom sending in straight.
Lynn missed Martin, Stevens being unable to hold together the forwards in the way that the captain does,
while no one in the team could reproduce his "sharp-shooters.’
On one of the occasions that the right wing got down Long just missed with a beauty.
Chamberlain in goal did not always inspire confidence but he stopped some good shots.
Lynn contested the game splendidly, and gave the spectators a good exhibition.
A penalty was, however, forfeited and Thompson came up the field and scored the City’s fourth goal twelve minutes from the close.
Lynn made an effort to retrieve their position and Ransome centred finely.
Thompson, however, managed to clear. Lynn, with their mixed team, gave on the whole a creditable display, but they retired beaten by two goals.
