THE Linnets were left to rue a host of missed chances as they drew their second successive home UniBond game in the space of a few days.
Carl Heggs’ side dominated the second half on Saturday, but were unable to turn their superiority into goals.
As expected, Lynn handed local lad Danny Gay a debut between the posts but, in truth, he had very little to do. But the same could be said of Whitby goalkeeper David Campbell at the other end. Lynn carved out chance after chance after the break but failed to force Campbell into one serious save.
The Walks outfit missed a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 14th minute when Ryan Beswick’s cross from the left was somehow dragged wide by Anthony Robinson from only three yards out.
Lynn were made to pay midway through the first period when Tony Hackworth struck a glorious 25-yard effort past the despairing dive of Gay and into the roof of the net.
Beswick twice tried his luck from distance, but both times his efforts flashed wide of the target.
Lynn continued in the some vein after the interval and the equaliser came in the
55th minute when Beswick chased down a loose ball and crossed for Sheldon to volley home his fourth goal of the campaign.
Poor delivery from set- pieces, combined with their shyness in front of goal, cost Lynn dearly in the remainder of the half.
In the dying seconds, Lloyd was clearly fouled in the box as Lynn pushed forward in search of a winner, but their strong penalty claims were waved away by referee Mr Chester.
