THE long journey down to Hampshire paid dividends for Lynn as they brushed aside bottom side Fleet to notch their sixth win in a row.
Young striker Chris Bacon bagged a brace on Saturday as Lynn continue their charge up the Dr Martens Eastern Division table to eighth.
Bacon came in for leading striker Lee Stephenson, whose wife went into labour early on Saturday morning.
David Staff, now a regular up front, put The Walks outfit ahead in the 21st minute with a brilliant right-footed strike from 20 yards out wide on the left.
Up to that, point honours were fairly even as both sides worked hard in the soft conditions to find their patterns of play.
Fleet’s ex-England international, 40-year-old Mark Chamberlain, impressed early on with some fine touches.
Without their leading striker Ian Mancey, the home side struggled to convert good possession into goals.
The Linnets went further ahead on 35 minutes when home defender John Murphy was adjudged to have brought down Paul Raynor in the box.
Midfielder Carl Holmes made no mistake with the spot-kick. Adam Weston from an acute angle went close, as did Staff, Lewis Blois - his first start after a long injury break - and Jack Defty.
With Chamberlain sidelined after the break with a thigh strain, The Blues’ misery continued into the second half as the visitors took charge.
On 60 minutes an inch-perfect cross in from the right from Staff, found Chris Bacon on the far post to head past Fleet keeper Simon Arthur.
Five minutes later, Bacon made it 4-0, this time with his left foot from close range following a long ball from Jack Defty. Pablo Ortega came on for Defty and hit the bar.
Fleet battled on and their consolation goal came in the 88th minute when a great through ball by veteran striker Mark Frampton gave sub strike partner Mike Pearson the time to pick his spot past keeper Dean Greygoose.
Linnets sub Paul Watts then completed the scoring with seconds remaining, following a mistake in the Fleet defence by Hedley Winter.
