Title: Linnets lose on the road
Post by: Blue_and_Gold on February 22, 2025, 04:56:05 PM
Lynn lose 1-0 away to Darlington.

Results elsewhere means Lynn stay in 6th position and in a play off spot.

Att: 1481.

Lynn visit Kiddie on Tuesday, and it could be a good time to go there with them having lost their last two games (Kiddie lost 3-1 at home to Spennymoor this afternoon).

Think you are clutching at straws B & G ...Kiddie are due a win ......and they have some goalscoring forwards.

Unless the new signings lined up are stellar and arrive very soon it,might be wise to wait now.

I see Sports have some momentum currently.

Can't knock optimism  :laughcry: :laughcry: :laughcry:

It's the old lack of information for supporters again though isn't it it......if the club are serious about going for promotion then pay to get a goalscorer in. If the club doesn't have the cash then tell us.

In summary TELL US YOUR PLAN......if you have one.

No shame in a single goal defeat at Darlo.  As for new players coming in surely we would have seen them join by now.  Time is slipping away.

Hopefully McFadden and Johnson are back for Tuesday night at Kiddie.  Two poor defeats for them on the spin against Marine and then today sets it up nicely for us. Good time to go there.

You almost sound like a 1-0 defeat was a good result for us. Looking at it slightly different, with our lack of scoring goals, the game was all over after just 6 minutes. Do you really think we will come away from Kidderminster with anything, I suppose a 0-0 would be good. Going to be a tough ask to finish in a playoff spot but if we can, then who knows. Hopefully the talked about new signings include a decent forward, could make the difference.

John when I saw the line up was missing both McFadden and Johnson I feared the worst today.

Having just had a listen to a 'prickly' AL post match interview it seems I might have it spot on and a 1-0 defeat was a decent result.

Just watched AL's post match interview. Made me feel like phoning the Samaritans. Mr Motivator he is not. More like Mr Moaner. Bumpy pitch, Margetts fell over too easily, it is down to the players not him. He didn't come across as being particularly enthusiastic about the current state of play.

Who knows maybe it's getting to AL.   The travelling to Norfolk from the North West, the frustration of players not wanting to come to Lynn and indeed a player choosing to go to part time Alfreton.  Chuck in the fact we were in their challenging for the top shop a few short weeks ago.  Come Tuesday we could well be outside the play off places.

Even the situation with Cleeve, Jo/Bal  might be giving him concern

The lure of full time football was one of the reasons AL took the job. The expectations at Lynn always seem to be very high. We gained promotion under IC to the National League and had two seasons there, it was as expected, very difficult. Of course AL is frustrated, he wants to win football games. He knows the problem is lack of scoring, even if he doesn't want to admit it. Our leading scorer has scored just 8, if you don't address that, then don't expect to achieve success.

Surely a manager with such a stellar reputation wouldn't have 'signed on the dotted line' without doing some basic due diligence re such as ownership structure, implication of our location and its possible impact on player recruitment, added to the need to regularly be up at the crack of dawn to travel down to his place of work etc etc?

Full time club, full time job maybe. Ok, simple question, would you renew his contract.

No...the majority of supporters who attend know the style of play is over cautious and boring...every game is the same as the last one.Marriot and Gash seem such a long time ago now.

Would AL want it renewed?

How long has AL's contract got to run ?   I guess the commuting to Lynn from the North West has a limited life span.  It would seem Lakeland's contacts are very Northern based so might be another frustration with not being able to get fresh bodies through the door.

Though having said that you can't get much local than Toll and he couldn't get him.

Did we actually try to sign Toll, I didn't think we did. Wasn't he on a short trial with us.
Re B&G "would AL want his contract renewed", hopefully not, but I'm sure he will feel he hasn't achieved  what he would have hoped for, unless of course we make the playoffs and gain promotion.
We were playing Stockport and Wrexham not long ago, they are both in play off places in League One now. We don't have the financial backing or support that they do, so where is our level.
If we don't gain promotion, will we go part time.

The story I heard is that we did try to sign him but he preferred to work with Setch.

For me it's a "no".

We're mostly playing a defensive game, but without a strong enough back line and not enough regular goal getters. You can't just say "come and break yourselves against our defenders, it's a no through road ⛔", when it clearly isn't.

He's spending too much time coming up with excuses for the standard of play and the lack of goals.

But give the bloke credit for getting us in and around the playoffs.

And if watching some dull and frequently painful football gives us the points we need, I'll take it. But I don't have to like it 😿

AL deserves a lot of credit for digging Cleeve out of a hole last season following  the poor choice of Manager (Hughes).  We need to be hard to beat to get out of trouble.  Mission accomplished.

This season was very much AL's team.  Think we are more than decent at the back but we are very toothless up front.  Can't expect the team to keep clean sheets every week to pull in points.  The entertainment value at the Walks hasn't been great this season but Lakeland seems to built everything on a tight defence and nicking a goal.
