Title: Who was at the game today ?
Post by: Mallard on August 02, 2025, 06:54:50 PM
Would like to hear some thoughts on the game today.  Surely can't have been as poor as the result suggests.

Not an ideal result to go into next Saturday with.

We seem to be playing with 11 individuals today trying to show how good they are trying to beat the man instead of one touch and pass the ball on. We have the makings of a good team when they learn to play as a team.

I guess at the moment there will be issues with so many departures  and arrivals.  Trouble is it's starts for real in 7 short days.  Important to get off to a decent start in terms of keeping the fanbase onboard.  I'm expecting a decent gate for Saturday.  New regime that plenty will give a chance.

I was there today and the score doesn't reflect the game. It was a high-paced match and fitness levels appear to be good.

I'm particularly impressed with the players that have been signed in the last few days just getting stuck in.

It looks like we're going to be much more physical and some height is also welcome.

The grass seems quite long and at times it played unevenly during passes. Most of the play was on the floor. Thankfully.

There was very little heading of the ball other than a couple of optimistic hoofballs aimed at Gold when he came on.

Keeper looked composed despite not getting a clean sheet. But he was coming out beyond the centre line and playing from there from time to time, which I found quite worrying, but perhaps he's good at running backwards. Just begging to be lobbed, but the manager must be okay with his style.

I was particularly impressed by Tom Wilson, Joseph Nyahwema and Cameron Forde-Brown, the latter being chosen as Man of the Match.

And even more... the scoreboard is working again... for now 😉

:scarf: I was. Spalding were very competitive and won a lot of 50:50 balls. We created a few more chances but nobody was able to provide a cutting ball for a striker. TW to me is an old fashioned centre half and is playing out of position - he was nutmegged easily playing full back which led to the second goal . Too many crosses supplied to now one especially before GO  entered the fray.
We have several young players who move the ball well and cover the ground to deny opposition space only, experience will let them become better. Hopefully it is not to a steep learning curve.
Apparently the bookies make us 2nd favourites for promotion l think it will only be through the playoffs if at all. I think this is a starting block for development of a future team to get promotion.
I wish the manager and team success and hope the fickle fans don't do the usual if we lose a few home games.

I had a listen to the Managers post match interview.  Super confident guy ahead of next Saturday.  Explained what and who he was happy with.   Not about results in pre/
-season, though a lot of Managers set the  friendlies with a 'gimme' at the end as boast going into the season.

Let's not forget Spalding are no mugs and I guess must be favourites for promotion themselves.  Plus they have a Manager who knows his onions. Not long back he was being tipped as a Kings Lynn Manager.

First game of the season is getting proper exciting.

:scarf: Well said we have been starved of positive football for 2 seasons.
