Title: Alfreton Tuesday night
Post by: Mallard on September 01, 2019, 10:40:20 AM
Massive game coming up Tuesday.   Think the team, Manager and The Chairman need to see the fans out in force.   With the Football being played we need to lap it all up.  Teams like we have at the moment don’t come along to often.

Mike Tuesday might be a good opportunity to get those wing backs forward to collect those overhit crosses. :mystic:

Probably the toughest game so far- not on the Name” of the club, but on current form.  Have to go for the throat, IMHO !  Attack best form of defence, then virtually everybody behind the ball when they get it.  Everyone is playing so well, but special mention for Clunan who continues to break up their moves, and often start ours.....

This game is at the end of a tough start to the season in terms of number of games played  and size of our squad.

Yes I think all squads are suffering a bit at this stage....the Darlo manager was ruing several significant absentees.
At least its  Tues eve where Lynn don't have to travel...that must be an advantage towards the end of such a busy run.
If they can just keep the form going for a couple more games...then it's a week before Gloucester at home and then snother week before the FA Cup.. so a chance to recover a bit then

Maybe  IC should have waited before shipping Hawks out on loan.

It will be and interesting evening with the top four playing each other. Guiseley entertain York City. Hope we have Adam Marriott back, not that we done too bad without him on Saturday but Alfreton will be a different proposition.

Yes I was thinking the same thing Mallard...Hawks gives something a bit different and Gash, Henderson and Marriott need a rest.....if we are lucky enough to get a rel easy home Fa Cup draw, Hawks and Stewart for Gash and Marriott may have been an option

Hope we are at our fluent best this evening. Think they will be a no nonsense, hard working, physical outfit. Just watched interview with their manager........"the whole world's against us but we'll stick together through it all", type of mentality.

Listening to their Manager talking about tonight’s game,  got the impression he would be happy to come away with a point.  That might where we are now at home in the swing of things.  Teams are gonna turn up and be happy to leave with a point. Seems like a month in Football
Is a long time.

Maybe, but by all accounts he had acquired some timber and has lost his focus. That's understandable but perhaps suggests a lack of hunger and fight. He can be brilliant but I can't see which players in the current squad you could put him ahead of.

If Hawks was a little bit ‘off it’. I’m sure IC and his man management skills would have little hesitation in letting him know he needed to up his game.   Was just suggesting with the frantic start to the season it might have been better to keep all hands on deck in case of injuries etc.  Saturday for example we were missing Smith n Marriott so named Bastock on the bench.

By the by Hawks got the winner for Dereham on Saturday.

Yes and there needs to be some credible forward back up to Gash and Marriott. We are getting to the time when most teams are close to playing on empty...that's when injuries occur, as we are already starting to see. After Alfreton comes Spennymoor, then Gloucester at home...then Fa Cup and Trophy appear on the horizon....for the early rounds I would use all the squad....so say Stewart and Hawkins for Gash and Marriott and save the big guns for the likes of York and Chester...if they are in the squad, then they should be good enough and should be used

Maybe Hawks going out on loan will free up a bit of cash adding to the extra revenue coming through the gate (over the 750/800 min)  might mean an understudy for Gash to come in.  I remember during IC’s first season. Gash was given plenty of rest time at the end of games when the likes of Hilliard or Siddons were used to protect him.

Yes possibly... certainly Hawks will still be at Dereham when the cup first appears. What we could do with is a home draw against a step 4 side or something similar. Then with the judicious use of a couple of ressies we could rest 2 centre backs, Jones, Fox and Jarv and the front 2 and still have a useful lineup, quite capable of victory.....anyway that's for later in the piece ...there are 3 vital league games before then, starting with tonight.

In non league football the real money spinner is the fa cup. We need to put out best team available.

Totally agree. Personally I love a good cup run and like you say, potential to bring several thousand pounds into the club.

Think you need to temper that with the reality of 11 Conference North matches and the travel over what will have been just 6/7 weeks....you can't keep going flat out with the same players week in week out or they will all be on the physios table missing matches

IC can use his bench because it is strong and wouldn’t weaken the team.  I’ve long thought the FA Cup is seen as second rate by the big clubs, but outside the top two divisions, and throughout non-league, it is important as a money-spinner.  Way back the club reached the league clubs regularly, and this must be the best chance for years to do it again.  It’s all great progress if we get a “plum draw”, and would bring income needed for continued progress...

Just see the highlights again from last night on youtube, that marriot last goal really was class how he turned away from 2 players.

Still unsure if there was enough contact for the straight red. Hmm...
