Title: King's Lynn v York City - Sat 18 Jan 2020
Post by: westlynnmike on January 11, 2020, 07:55:51 PM
After our loss at Ebbsfleet in the FA Trophy Lynn can now concentrate all our efforts to the League.

Two games in hand over York and 1point ahead and the BIG GAME next Saturday at Home against The Minstermen (after York Minster).

(King's Lynn Minster (St Margaret's) is a Grade I listed parish church in the Church of England in King's Lynn. It was granted the honorary title of Minster in 2011. The word derives from the Old English "mynster", meaning "monastery", "nunnery", "mother church" or "cathedral".)

Our Two games in Hand will not be resolved until late in the season and may even extend to 3games if Leamington get through this Round of the FA Trophy after today's 1 - 1 Draw) and our our game against them is postponed on 8th Feb.

York also have some possibly unwelcome games in The North Riding Cup with their 1/4 Final game against Whitby on 28th Jan and possible further games if they proceed.

Harry Limb has been out for ages with a virus and just working his way back up to speed.......will be an important option in the squad for the rest of the season.
Young players like him in the squad  who have had a bit of a tough time could do with a bit of support and encouragement from the fan base.........that is if we are all pulling the same way and are in it together

OK ďeveryone pulling togetherĒ, and very welcome, but is Harry Limb any good ?!  Not casting nasturtiums, but did he do well at Parson Drove(?) and Boston Town ?  Also is Richards injury long term ?

Personally I think i need to give Harry few more games before i judge , heís had two sub appearances for us , and coming into a front line of gashy /maz  so itís hard for him as we compare him to them ,  thereís no doubting his ability  and so do IC , last season he done ok , just need to get up to speed with rest off the team .   :scarf:

Well Dilly we won't find that out till he gets a run and it won't help his or the team's cause if people have a go at this stage.
I am sure IC has a better idea of his credentials than either you or me...so let's wait and see. You are one for being positive on formations, backing that up with being vocally encouraging at the ground  and on here needs to be a given surely. The squad to a man have been nothing short of brilliant this far and much of that comes from an incredible togetherness that I feel we as fans should embrace.
Who knows in a few weeks time Harry might be one of those slick individuals that we are all purring about.
I personally think Harry will be valuable and end up with 6 goals to his name by the end of the season.

A little something I did notice from yesterdayís game, was that the 50/50 total prize was close to £150, and for a game with not even 700 supporters, this is a great total really. From memory we struggled to sell about that many tickets with attendance being nearly double that.

Can we really push these sales against York, believe itís only £1 a ticket. Letís all help the club reach its goals, and keep the ball rolling! Keep the wheels on our bus!

Harry Limb I think notched a few on loan at Boston Town ( step 5).  Is he good enough to score goals at step 2?   Think in fairness we have to say the jury is out.  The one thing about the lad though is he is ours, so when he plays  he needs 100% backing.

As for pretty young girls Griss, really ? In this day and age.  Why not pretty young boys if we are going down that route. Or why not someone whose gender matters not but has the personality and sales ability to help Mark ( the 50/50 seller) out.

I live in Portugal so cannot get to the games. Can I purchase raffle tickets etc each week so that I am contributing something to the club?

This match is attracting a huge response locally, really expect in the region of 2,500 at the very least...slightly worried with mc cauley and barrows injuries, not too enthused with Smith & ward in charge at this current time...

Are they extending the segregation to what boston had I. E more under cover? Can see them bringing a lit more than boston did considering the size of their club and the importance of the game.
A lot if buzz around the town and rightly so hearing loads of non regulars saying they coming, going to be a massive day, will quite happily take a 1-1 draw.

KES80, I think you must have the wrong bloke, because Iím not a bloke, and Iím certainly not big on formations, because personally I think they are usually pretentious nonsense.  I believe they are only relevant on a subbuteo board, because whatever formation lines up, as soon as the whistle goes THE PLAYERS MOVE !  The likes of Carragher, Neville, Rednapp, etc yak profitably for hours before a game, then again after, about tactics and formations, but youíll never catch Guardiola joining in, because he knows itís about mobility and outnumbering, and nothing else.  No matter, I donít do much shouting either (!), but I do agree with you that the team, managers, and Chairman have been superb all season, and we must get behind whoever is selected and hope for a fantastic end to the season.  OK, Iíll come clean about the bloke bit !

My side would always have a formation or structure to it, so that people have key roles......its the flexibility or fluidity that you then build into it, that allows swapping of positions and leads onto the kind of football most of us enjoy.
If of course one doesn't have the quickest, most athletic, skillful and intelligent footballers at one's disposal (which of course, Pep usually does have), then one may have to compromise one's principals

Take your point, KES, about the likes of Pep and the advantage he has with his standard of players.  Without that level, as you say, you would want a structure to try to nullify superior opponents.  Where we perhaps differ is that I believe there are only about 3 positions that are more stationary in such an organised set-up - the GK and 2 CHs.  The rest of the plan would be simply about numbers - all back behind the ball, or several flood forward when the opportunity arises.  Anyway, all opinions, and good to talk...

Isn't that what's great about the way Lynn play....when you compare our goals for and against with say York, whose main emphasis or starting point is not conceding.....really hope IC's philosophy wins out Saturday and more importantly over the course of the season.

Even if Lynn slip up against York on Saturday then York would go away with 2 point lead but with us having 2 games in hand.  Itís almost like a free hit for us.  The pressure is very much on them to come get a result at The Walks.  However if we gain the victory we have a 4 point cushion and still the 2 games in hand.

If anyone had said this they would have been locked away in a padded cell.

Proper question from Mallard.  All this rain must be a real headache for the groundsman.  We all appreciate the great job heís done this season, but I canít see how the pitch can be taking it well enough to facilitate the football IC and the team want and need to play.  Look forward to someone with an update on that, and the current state of the injury list......

Boston would get called off if someone sneezed on their pitch.   Get Thursday out of the way, and the forecast is saying maybe a shower Friday, and bright sunshine all day Saturday.  I will take a 1-1. And it would not surprise me if the crowd was around 3000.

Thanks to Steve for update on the pitch, and to you, LS Linnet, for the injury news. It would indeed be a pity if Richards or Kelly couldnít make it, and, although I too like Rory McC, we are well stocked for CHs if Barrows and Smith are 100%.  Now letís do a non-rain dance and look forward to a classic, on paper at least......

Few more thoughts on yesterdays game, in no particular order.

For those who question how important formations are, I hope you were watching the game.  IC came up with a masterstroke with what he described in his post-match interview as a 'lopsided five' - basically 3 centre halves and one wing back (Jones) and then Power as a traditional winger who gave their no2 all sorts of problems (I imagine he will still be having nightmares in the summer).  Thought the 3 took time to settle but were also against some good, big lads from York who were no mugs but in the end did a great job.  Jarv and Richards did a good job but one of the players of the game for me was Payne when he came on - great to see him finally getting a game sitting in front of the defence where his ability to read the game was highlighted and hope he gets an extended run there - not only can he deliver a great pass but he sees forward balls quicker than anyone else in the squad.  I couldn't see how Henderson and Power could be squeezed into an 11 but both played their part and thought Hendo had a good game - again playing that bit further up the pitch where he does his best work.  Already spoken about Gash but what a game, just hope he has 17 more games in him because he isn't getting any younger and he really does give his all.  Proves we are more than just Mazza but after a quiet game he still had the deciding touch, albeit from less than a yard!

Another part of the master plan was Barrows coming in on the left hand side in place of Fox.  Barrows stronger in the air and seem to recall Fox got a bit of a chasing at York.   Barrows held his position well on that side allowing Power not to worry about the defensive side.  Mind you, it didn't stop him tracking back and putting in some timely tackles.

Excellent performance from both teams.  Great deal of effort put in by everybody, perhaps Gash in particular.  ICís selection job just got harder and all over the pitch.  Superb game from Power who frightened the life out of York throughout.  Concerned about the injuries to Richards and Barrows - any loss of them would be a real blow.  I was glad to hear IC say that he didnít expect too much defending from Power, although it does help to see ďten men behind the ball when.necessary, but what an outlet Power will be when we do spring forward.......I think SP just played his way into my ďKL all-time elevenĒ in just 90 minutes !!!
