Title: Random requests
Post by: samsdad on February 02, 2020, 11:56:45 PM
Hi all.

Another random request post.

I was hoping members may have some old Lynn News or Eastern Generation / John Grose shirts they may want to sell?

Also... after being inspired by some old football shirt artwork, if anyone has any photos of old Lynn kits for an artist to draw that would be appreciated.

Thank you!

I replied to a Jamie H post on Facebook saying that I think retro Lynn shirts would sell well in the club shop. Maybe another money spinning line to add cash to the clubs coffers?

I'd be in favour of retro shirts and it is a big and popular business now. I guess the problem, as for all merchandising for lower and non league clubs, is economy of scale with the purchasing. Would the club be able to justify buying enough to make the price attractive for them and us? Maybe something for Mark H to look into.

Maybe if a small shirt printing business could be linked up with then some one or two off retro shirts could be reproduced?

I have no idea how many would make a run worth while, but the good thing about retro shirts is that wont go out of date. Even if they were stored else where so as not to clog up the shop or available to purchase on-line and collect in the shop on match days?

The first thing would be to find a UK manufacturer to make and supply the shirts. These are very few and far between and there would be minimum quantities if you can find somebody to actually make them. Normally anything from 25 to 50 at a time to make it worthwhile for the factory to obtain fabrics, labelling, trims such as collars and cuffs etc.
It is not as easy as it sounds.
For instance Joma on a special order is minimum 300 garments of a style.
Also i was responsible for supplying all the kits from the Lynn News days and that particular manufacturer i have not used myself (Double G Clothing) for at least 2 years as they were scaling down the business and subbing out lots of the work which created numerous problems such as black trimmed garments that should of been dark green with the response being the member of staff that produced them is colour blind!
Great idea but not an easy fix.

I'm with you Chilvers Gordon, not as easy as it sounds, unfortunately and that is without factoring in a profit for the club. To get an attractive price they may well need to order in 1,000s not 100's.
Just a thought - I don't know how TOFFS operate but they have a couple of old Leeds shirts, at least one of which is like an old Linnets shirt. Could the club provide TOFFS with Linnets club badges, TOFFS produce and sell the shirts, but the club get a margin from the sale. Maybe TOFFS operate something similar anyway as they are producing multiple shirts with club badges which are presumably a trade mark of the relevant club.
I'm new to this forum, anyone know if Mark Hearle is on here? If not I'll email him.

For some reason I can't seem to reply to a message but thank you to the kind man who has kindly donated an old shirt to me. Hopefully see you in the bar at a game soon to buy a beer or two to say thanks. Thank you!
