General Discussion / Re: Gold comes back

Hope we get the version of Gold that bagged 25 goals in his last season for us.  A mate of mine that supports Kiddy said he didn't impress with them after he moved from Fylde last year.

I've never really got the go elsewhere thing.  As a life long Lynn fan I've always considered the likes of Wisbech or Boston (for example) the enemy and I'd rather poke my own eyes out than go and watch them.  I get the point about the prices though.

I think they are part time.

Apparently they have 5 main benefactors who each put in a certain amount and own 50% between them.  There are something like 300 on the fan owned side (I think) with a smaller set of elected representative directors, one of which I met - lovely lady called Joan who does a variety of roles for the club as part of her directorship.  It seemed a fairly happy camp.  Interestingly their team train at Solihull Moors in Birmingham and are mostly Midlands based.  I guess they are lucky to have a large fan base (2400 there on Sat), but there was a pretty vibrant bar after the game and the atmosphere seemed positive.

General Discussion / Thoughts on match at Hereford

Few reflections on Saturdays match:

First half we were mostly chasing shadows and it looked like a top v bottom kind of clash.  Second half we had a great spell and also got some luck.  Paul Jones was magnificent and basically kept us in it.
I think we are better 4-4-2 than 3-5-2.  I guess the reason why we maybe set up to play 3-5-2 is that we don't have centre backs that are quick.  Coulson looks exposed in a 4 even though he is a tremendous player and a warrior.  Gabby looked better further forward and is not a wing back in my opinion.  When we went 4-4-2 we looked a lot better in midfield and really caused them some problems.  Hargreaves was good wide right also.
New signing Magretts showed good directness and the rare times he got the ball he tended to use it well.  I think he will be a good player for us.
Best player for them was the winger no 17 who was almost impossible to play against.  Apparently he is on load from Banbury which is madness, surely they need him?!
I enjoyed the game from the Hereford directors area as guest of a mate whose firm are a sponsor there.  I celebrated loud and proud the penalty save as well as our two goals and enjoyed annoying the locals.  However I must say that Hereford are a top club with really decent people and I was interested to hear of their 50% fab ownership model.

General Discussion / Re: Rushall Olympic

I'm an exiled Linnet (in Birmingham) and attended the game last night.  It was a very good performance  Thought we started very brightly and looked better team but without too much end product.  Rushall then came into the game and pegged us back a bit and eventually got a scrappy goal.  Second half we played very patiently moving the ball about and stretching them.  Eventually it told and Stephens (who was excellent) scored  a great headed goal from Jones cross.  Jones caused them a lot of problems down the left as the game went on.  The new lad Rogers made a difference when he came on.  he has an inventiveness that we were otherwise lacking and I think it was his pinpoint pass that put Stephens in to win the penalty after the keeper took him down in the box.  At this point we were really turning the screw and much the better team.
Wasn't Bart's best night in my opinion and a decent second striker option from the bench would have helped.  To be fair he took the pen with great composure though and that is not to be sniffed at.
Overall really encouraging, and the table looks climable now.

Some great memories of Lynn FA Cup games.  We actually played really well first half at Rotherham, but I think fitness told in the second period.  The Bishops Stortford game was amazing.  We destroyed them.  One of those days where you almost felt sorry for the opposition keeper.  The away support was literally metres away from him and I think he let two through his hands!  As for the Oldham game on Sky etc, it was a magnificent occasion.  At 2-0 down I think Alex Notman had a really good chance for us 1v1 from a tight angle, but their keeper was class and stopped it.  Would have made for a lively end to the game.  The Walks was rocking that night.  I remember it filling up quite early. Charlie Defty and Mark Camm came out early to warm up on their own and as they ran from the main stand over to the far side and back they had a massive ovation each side.  Made your hairs stand up on end.
