General Discussion / Re: Coulson leaves

I don’t know much about him, but why do some think Coulson would make a coach or a manager?

Hi TonyM - I probably know less than some on here about SC and his Chairmanship.  However, I think he has emptied his pockets and found others to do the same more than any previous Captain of the ship.  He also showed more ambition to pull the club as high up the Pyramid as possible, and even beyond.  His full ambition hasn’t been realised, but we have certainly had more progress and success than in any previous era.  Rightly or wrongly, I think we’re a fickle bunch of supporters, myself included, and crowds have not reached the level expected or needed to make the desired progress.  I still believe the potential is there, but our organisation is a lot weaker than many other clubs at this level.  It needn’t stay that way, of course, but I hope we have another season with him at the helm….

Mud sticks, as you say Mall, and is spread by Mud-spreaders, but they are ill-informed gits in my experience!  Don’t know much about Rowe, but I’m not a Manager believer, in football or anything else, unless they know what they’re doing, which is by no means always the case. If I were a Chairman, I’d pick someone who can spot good players and not merely spout cliches.  Best heard recently was “Sometimes he looks like a Ten wrapped in a Six”!!!  It wouldn’t bother me if a woman got the job, as long a she knows good players when she sees them, and doesn't put on a cockney accent just to sound like a manager! COYL!

Fair dos, Mall - the final goal more like!  But my point remains.  Frustrating that players like him are always seen with suspicion that they’re not in the game enough.  It’s “50s muddy pitch Alan Shearer get the crosses in to the Big Number 9” caveman mentality imho!  Anyway, hoping for a warm summer to all you Linnets fans, and here’s to a healthy and progressive future for the club.  I’m not all HappyClappy though because I hereby risk brickbats from some by stating my hope that we keep SC’s interest on board!!!….

General Discussion / Aldershot win FA Trophy

Congratulations to our former manager on winning the FA Trophy at Wembley in front of 38,000 spectators.  Also to Josh Barret for scoring the winning goal.  Imho, Josh was the best player at The Walks in the last 10, perhaps 20 years  He was a genuine talent, and I was frustrated to see him on the bench so often, usually because strength and effort were seemingly preferred to the real ability that JB possesses.  Now back to KLTFC, with fingers crossed we get to the other end of the difficult period we are in….

It was obvious Barrett was a higher standard than the rest of the team, and no surprise at all that he has done well in the NL.  It was poor judgement that kept on the bench so often.  I believe Crane has had the same treatment.  When we badly need a goal it seems crazy to me to take one forward off and put another on.  It might help to have two on, especially if we’re dominating the game.  I don’t think I’ve seen a Lynn team so short of creative players, and hope we change it dramatically next season…

Disappointed but not surprised that he left Crane on the bench.  He has ability, and it was a game we had to win, not lose close!  I believe Al’s football mindset cost us too many points, particularly against teams in the relegation zone.  Ah well, here’s to next season in the league that currently suits us best.  I don’t much care who the manager is as long as he can spot a good player and attract him to the club, (and pick him!).  Life goes on!

It wasn’t Northern grit that beat us today. It was proper football by a team with all the players while we had none. Chester were excellent. They played nippy skilful football throughout.  The first half looked like Barcelona versus Scunthorpe Muckworks. Haven’t been for a long while, but I thought Crane looked a player, but virtually no one else.  Crowe and Sass can have another go, but we need a large influx of players, found by a manager who knows that skill and slickness will beat kick and head volleyball every day of the week!  Good luck vs Chorley, but we’ll have park the bus and sneak a couple of hooligans on as well and hope for a breakaway and a 90 degree deflection off of a defenders backside for a winner….  But COYL!!!

General Discussion / Re: Finishing position

There is a lot of cynicism about SC at the moment. some of it possibly justified from people who know more than the Dillathon computer.  But, in general, I beg to differ.  I think SC has shown more ambition and emptied deeper pockets than almost all previous occupants of the hot seat. One post criticised him throughout, until the last sentence said “I appreciate what he’s done”, which struck me as inconsistent. The Dillathon ‘puter congratulates Al on picking Crane and Hamami in the same team from the start, even though it took him until 3 games from the end to keep our team up their end (pardon the expression) more often than usual. The computer sees the goal difference of 9 as showing a different mindset and selection to the other play-off contenders.  Like most on here, I hope we win through the play-offs and get a rather unexpected promotion.  Then we’ll need a much more professional set-up, particularly financial.  Happy Easter to all….

Good result.  Hopefully a lesson for Al that an attacking line-up is the best form of defence!…

Obviously I’m fully respectful that everyone on this forum has the health and prospects of the club at heart, but I’m a little concerned to see the occasional suggestion of local players as a possible cure for our current problems.  I genuinely believe that that would be a recipe for a return to the United Counties League!  How many people are involved in the running of the club?  And by “Club”, I mean all aspects, bar, ground, etc., even changing the “Next match” board on the fence?  Is anyone computer literate? (Not sarcasm, there, I mean can do more than “surf”? - which doesn’t include me!  There are decent financial opportunities online for those who can…

I’m here to represent the most annoying supporters - the ones who don’t go as we are awaiting warmer climes and a better team.  My beef is with the manager; in a game we should certainly have looked to win to maintain any chance of a play-off place, Al, like so many managers at all levels, leaves the fastest and trickiest player, Crane, on the bench, presumably preferring some kind of Subbuteo formation to picking the players most likely to actually create chances.  I fear we have found our level.  The support, the stadium, the team, and the financial side simply don’t look like an enterprise likely to go any higher.  I wish us all well, but reality is possibly beginning to surface…

Skilful players like Barrett are always accused of not being consistent, or not “putting in a shift”. I only watch Bundesliga, La Liga, or Champions League now to avoid players “winning fouls” or “tactical fouls” in the macho game full of players “putting in a shift” that has developed over here…
