General Discussion / Re: Season ends with a loss.
« on: April 23, 2024, 12:30:48 PM »
Certainly one to forget this one.   In the end it was job done.  AL has an important couple of months ahead in terms of recruitment.

Which of the Lynn owned players would you keep for next season ?

Jones
McFadden
Hargreaves
Walker ( a given)
Margetts
Crowe
Stephens
Hughes

Jones as back up to Dixon-Hodge, Hargreaves, Margetts and Crowe.

If the budget allows Stephens as Hughes as squad players.

Need someone like Barrows (right back who can also play centre half) plus two new centre halves, 2 new midfielders and a couple of forwards as a minimum, I would think.

All need to be hard working fit individuals with experience at this level. If they have a bit of flair, that's a bonus. Times have moved on........Bowles, Marsh, Currie etc, although fun in the day wouldn't get in a starting eleven these days unless their fitness and work rate improved dramatically .
Any player who has the required fitness level for NL and great flair to go with it , will be in the EFl.......we have to be realistic in terms of the football we expect, I feel.......the only exception would be the inducement of a huge budget and wages to attract EFL players in (Wrexham for example).
I thought that playing with a huge budget when compared to our league rivals was the chairmans plan.It seemed to be the case until last season.Have we seen the end of that or will Joes money replace the chairmans so the club can continue to operate the way it has since chapman sold to cleeve?

99%? That's a very big assumption to make and I doubt its correct. It maybe correct for some of the hard core supporters but the club desperately needs to get more supporters on board and that won't happen if the football is as dull as dishwater week in and week out. Also will not help player recruitment. How many players would say yes to a club knowing they have to take that attitude on the pitch for every game.It would be
like asking an adrenaline pumping oil rig worker to sit behind a desk pushing a pencil everytime he went to work or telling F1 fans they have got to watch Strictly instead. Is playing boring football in an attempt to win at all costs something they teach at the Academy so they can follow the clear pathway to the first team?Doubtful and I doubt the Chairman would put up with that even if AL did?

Not ignoring a typical Paul post.   :laughcry:

Sorry but at this stage of the season and looking at the form of the two teams,a win today was on the cards and the only acceptable result. The improvement in results we had seen over the past few games now looks as if it was a flash in the pan.
And the Manager doesn't want revolving doors and doesn't expect to make any Stellar signings for next season!

Dear all,

Leading up to the Euro tournament in June this year, I am conducting some research looking at fansí views towards the role of football in response to military conflict. For those interested in this topic, I have created a short survey that should not take up too much of your time: https://doit.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9zZmrJfShOSBDDw

Participation is completely voluntary, but I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on this topic.

Some interesting questions in this survey.

Sadly, I believe that many sports fans, not just football fans, don't care enough about such things as War and suffering of the World's population.

As long as money is pumped into their particular Sport or Club, at any level and irrespective of the source of such money, they are happy to go along with it.

Such is the craving for "success".

Pretty much summed it up there B&G
You're right there Jono.As can be seen here as the silence is almost deafening!

Our Lucky Joe must have left at half time.

Is Joe for real or just a figment of someone's vivid imagination?
Have you considered that it could be both?

The Elephant in the room.
His tactical substitutions played a major part in the 2nd half performance and the players can't be blamed for that decision.
Even if the reason for making the substitutions was due to players being tired after giving all in the first half, its his job to make sure he's got players on the bench capable of stepping up into the roles on the day.
Adam, you have done well up until Monday! We ended up with a back 3 with a combined age of 98 against a team going all out and looking for goals!
You can't try to let the players take the blame for that 2nd half shambles.

Really good result against the top of the league.
Unbeaten in 10 which is something none of us can have seen coming a couple of months ago.
Full credit to SC/AL and all of the players.
great result without a doubt but you need to include Joe when giving credit. It can't be ignored that SC and AL appeared hopelessly lost before he came on the scene and that can't be a coincidence

I think it will be interesting to see if the news today about changes at the top of The Lynn News will have any effect on their sports reporting in the future

Pre season he looked unfit and carrying timber.  Nothing improved by the start of the season.  Very poor recruitment by whomever.

Now when you look at the recruitment of Johnny Margetts that paints a totally different picture.  Ok at £1250 a week plus goal bonus itís expensive, but what price to keep us in this league.  Some would say money well spent.  The Club has Joeís money so why not spend it

Mallard you appear to have an inside track that few others possess?? If so, any ideas about just how much the mystical and mysterious Joe has invested?

Nudge nudge, wink wink.

Reading an EDP column today I did find it strange that there was no credit given to the Saviour Joe.Without him we would have probably be finished by now. Also sounded to me that we should now get used to boring football, and Chelsea are no longer the club they were, presumably thatís since the Russians have departed.

We shouldn't overlook the impact and contribution from the somewhat mysterious but benevolent Joe. It is only a few weeks since we were supposedly on the verge of extinction?
I don't think anybody can dispute the impact Joe's contribution has made.Things look as if they have changed on and off the pitch which leads me to believe that Joe's involvement is more than just pumping cash in and maybe he has given someone a crash course in how to run a business.I hope he pays us a visit soon as a guest of honour.
