General Discussion / Adam Lakeland Interview
« on: April 15, 2024, 12:38:44 PM »
Just watched AL 15min interview after the Sports game.   Interesting insight into what the hopes are for next season.  Has a hit list drawn up for  who he wants in for next season.

Puts a bit more meat on the bone to the mess inherited when he entered the building earlier in the season.  Was very critical Of the standard recruitments last summer.  I guess the likes of Bartley, Clifford,Oke, Smith, Spence etc could fall into that category.    Who was actually behind last summerís new signings ?

To me the one glaring mistake in recruitment terms was Mark Hughes being appointment by Stephen Cleeve.  The rest followed behind that.

General Discussion / FA Cup

Nothing to do with The Linnets but what a fantastic result for Maidstone yesterday, winning 2-1 at Ipswich.  Maidstone, like ourselves are a step 2 side and this result should well set them up for future seasons. Fingers crossed for them that they next a massive game in the 5th round.

On the subject of the magic that only seems to happen to the FA Cup. Huge shout out for Newport today v Man Utd.  A Club where the fans came together to rescue a club from virtual extinction.   Another truly remarkable story.

Who says the FA Cup is dying with stories like this.

General Discussion / Is it not about time ?
« on: January 24, 2024, 12:21:21 PM »
With the new investors(owners) having come onboard is it not about time we were hearing from them and what plans they have, going forward ?

It has all gone very quiet since the low key announcement.  Are they happy with the way things are happening and pleased with how their investment is being spent.

Good opportunity for SC to do one of his infamous ( overdue) podcasts with the new guy involved.

General Discussion / Game tomorrow
« on: January 19, 2024, 10:51:45 AM »
Hereford away tomorrow.  Would take a point before the game but can always hope for 3.

Will AL go with basically the same squad ot has he players coming back from injury etc.

Still think we will be busy before the Jan transfer window closes. Can see a few coming in much sooner than later.

General Discussion / The Future
« on: December 17, 2023, 09:59:52 AM »
Seemingly it looks like Stephen Cleeve tenure at the Club is coming to end.  It really leaves an uncertain future.  However we have been here before and bounced back.

If the Club goes pop in the New Year it will of course clear all the debt but come with a two tier League deduction that will see us fall back to Step 4 ( or even Step 5).  Once we are back at this level it will give the Club a chance to reform.  Would like to see a more local Manager and a squad that is locally based.  I seem to recall Setch worked on a budget of around £3k a week x 40 weeks gives a total playing budget of £120k  That seems more in line with self sustainability.

Be good to see a full board of directors take the Club on.  There will of course be a few uncertainties.  Like is the Ground lease in SCís name or in the Clubs name ?    Then again is the £400/£500k loan secured against the lease.

Certainly going to be an interesting New Year. However the future could look very bright, going forward with the right infrastructure put in place.

What do others think ?

General Discussion / Funny Old Game
« on: December 13, 2023, 09:45:52 PM »
Aldershot have beaten Stockport 1-0 away in a 2nd round replay.  They now meet WBA IN THE 3rd round.

The winning goal coming from sub ?????...... Olly Scott.  Good piece of business there Mr Cleeve.   How much will that be worth to TW and Aldershot ?

General Discussion / Peterborough Sports away

Important game Saturday.  After taking 7 points from the last 5 games feel itís important to get something from this one.  Canít think itís going to be a pretty game but now feel we have the resolve to grind out games and get some kind of return.

General Discussion / Brackley at home
« on: September 05, 2023, 08:16:39 AM »
High flying Brackley are in Town tonight.  Tough as they come this one.   Hoping for a point, expecting a defeat.

Just seen this Tweet from our owner.  What can we read into this, ?  If anything

Would any local companies like to sponsor our games this week against Brackley and Southport?  We need your support as I explain in tomorrow's programme notes

General Discussion / Farsley Celtic away
« on: September 01, 2023, 10:23:12 AM »
After Saturdayís victory can we make it two on the spin ?  Farsley have made a decent start, so would take a point.

Same line-up as Monday or is Clifford suspended ?   Anyone know what the injury issue is with Adam Crowther ?

General Discussion / Olly Scott
« on: August 03, 2023, 08:09:14 AM »
Looks like Olly Scott needs to get his car in the garage and get his stat Nav looked at.  After leaving with the Clubs best wishes to return to his native Durham it appears he has now signed for ... guess who?

Aldershot Town FC.   He is even in their  team photo.  You couldnít make it up.

Widdler.... the gift that keeps on giving.
