General Discussion / Re: Club and Blue and gold not getting on
« on: December 09, 2016, 12:50:23 AM »
Background is not relevant in this instance. From what I can see the offer did not propose any fan involvement in the running  of the club and its future direction, just a quarterly meeting to be told what is proposed.
Why would members hand over a lot of cash to a man with a dubious past ?
Either they would be getting a good deal or they would have confidence in the man himself.
It doesnt sound like either is the case.
At Wrexham we had over 300k in the bank and that infuriated the owners who were robbing us.

The trust is the fans and is a prospective investor in the club.
Cleeve needs to find a formula to bring the Trust onside and it wont be done by abusing long standing fans or trying to create division in the fanbase.
The Trust members have put the long term future of the club at the heart of their decisions and that is to be applauded.

What is there in Mr Cleeves background that would encourage you to hand over money to him ?

Cheers. He comes across as a really nice guy. He didnt offer contracts to many of last seasons players and the ones who have come in dont seem to be any better. Worse in some cases.

We are in for a long season I think.

I guess the issue is how much is he offering for all of the Trusts money.

Just been told that he managed you for a few years. What was he like ?

He is having a bit of a tough time here at the moment as the footie is poor and the results likewise.

I think he can turn it round and I like his football ethos.

Mr Cleeves business skills are covered in this BBC doc from the time he wanted to buy Wrexham.

Footie food and drink prices are a jack at any level of the game. Dont pay it and they will adjust the prices. Wrexhams prices are extortionate but you cant get served for the queue at half time.
Go figure.

Thats a shame. Its a standard tactic in my experience. You need some sort of unity to rebuild post Cleeve.

The benefits to the club by having the Trust involved are many.

When Wrexham were in administration the administrators asked the WST to run the club shop as they didnt have the funds to stock it. We ran it for two years and refitted it,restocked it and made a big profit which helped keep the club alive in troubled times.

We also had members with the skills to source and negotiate with kit suppliers. We got better deals because our people knew what they were doing.

We also ran the Junior Reds but got no credit for that,

We also had the conversations you are having now about donating to the club or sponsoring something.

There were fans who wouldnt support the Trust because we were not "supporting" the club. So we took a board and sponsored things up to the value of 10k a year. This figure was approved by our members. Our membership figures didnt move an inch on the back of this generosity.

If there are other groups that donate/sponsor I would encourage fans to do so through them and leave the Trust to work towards its primary goal. Everybody will benefit when that happens.

Cleeve would have no interest in working with the Trust but would be very interested in the money in their account.

My guess is that he will offer something symbolic in return. For example a regular meeting with the Trust board.

I would also expect him to start trying to divide the support on this issue. Turning people against the Trust.

The bits and pieces he has supposedly bought for the club. Is the money spent a donation or a loan ?

Wrexham fans group here wanting to tell you about our experience with Cleeve.
He appeared on the scene at a very low point for our club. The owners were absolutely despised and were looking to get out.
This brought forward a parade of chancers, scammers and fantasists amongst whom Cleeve was prominent.
His main problem was that he didnt have any money. Or at least ready money.
He offered to buy club if the owner loaned him the money to do so. When this played out he offered our Supporters Trust a deal. We gave him our 400k for a minority stake in the club and he would put in an un-named sum for majority ownership at some point in the future.
Not surprisingly this was declined.
It wasnt just the absurd offer. It was the fact that he seemed to be a man of no substance. Nothing about him seemed genuine.
His business record showed no success.
Fail land scamming business. Basically trying to sell green belt as development land.
Booze future speculations.

Football memorabilia cons. He was banned from Stamford Bridge by Bates.

He was also kicked out of UKIP.

His plans for our club were also a bit woolly.
It centred on importing and developing young African and Asian kids and then selling them on for a profit.
It was a nonsense.

He also had an idea about selling off the pitch in squares. Not the stands around it though.
At Wrexham the ground ownership would probably have remained with the owners until he could have manufactured a development deal .
I understand that your ground is owned by the Council. If they are anything like Wrexham then that would be a worry.
His antipathy to fan involvement has been a feature of his approach. Since being bounced out of Wrexham he has utilised twitter and fans websites to rubbish the efforts of our Supporters Trust.Childish behaviour from a supposed serious businessman.
If your Trust has any funds he will be in for that in the near future.

Its a real shame that he has attached himself to Kings Lynn. The FA do little or nothing to protect clubs from predators and even more so down the pyramid.
Join your Trust, be alert and start talking to your local council.

Good luck.
