General Discussion / Re: Sponsor wanted for Saturday's game.

I thought the Yeovil game was live last year or am I misunderstanding
something. The gate will interesting first game with not as many suppoters#
from away team my guess is 700-900 I hope I'm proved wrong.

I HOPE that you are being on the pessimistic side with that "guestimate" otherwise SC is going to go bonkers with a crowd that small for just the second home game of the season against the league leaders!

I don't think he'll be far out with the higher figure.

900 ish.

I think it will just creep over the 1000 figure, but still expect some negative reaction from Mr Cleave as to the “lack of support” shown!

Good result today and important to get the first points on the board. Yes, it WAS against 10 men for a large part of the match but you can only beat what's put in front of you and its the result that matters.

They will be removed from the ground and receive no refund.

Good luck with that! Who's going to remove them? The Stewards? Is so, someone needs to get real.

Why should  Volunteer Stewards put themselves in harm's way to do that?

Probably more importantly, why should a professional full time football club expect them to do so.

As we have seen before, a clubs shortcomings resulting in others being expected to pick up pieces.

If this is the best they can do I wouldn't be surprised if they get another official visit. If that happens, I suppose it could be a case of further restrictions on numbers or even worse.

No good saying it will be sorted soon. It needed sorting before the season started (we were told all games were going to be segregated). As it hasn't been, it needs sorting for the next home game after the Chesterfield visit.

I also can't see the people buying tickets on the day being questioned too rigourously regarding the team they support. Not if it means them being refused entry will cost the Club £21 a time!

Will they be asked before or after they have purchased a ticket?

I can see it now B&G, people will be being asked to quote a line from Shakespeare (to decipher their accent) and bring with them a utility bill (to prove their address!).

Looks like he could be a useful addition based on some of the comments from the Ipswich fans.

Hands up anyone who really believes the current position is sustainable.  Obviously Mr Hill does - anyone else apart from the owner?  “Investing” money in the club now is putting good money after bad I fear.  Sums raised by The Friends, believe me, won’t even scratch the surface.  The current scenario has been played out many times before by others and it only ends one way.  When that will be is anyone’s guess, but in my opinion it will be sooner rather than later.  Let’s hope I’m wrong.  Not so sure that the well know phrase “every little helps” is applicable in this case. Any other views?

That is so sad but TRUE!!
The crowds are not going to be enough to sustain the club. We can’t expect away numbers like Saturday too often during the season and even 1500 home fans each week (which with the admission price isn’t going to happen) is not going to be anywhere near enough.
For me too sadly, it’s just a matter of when, not if, the ‘big bang’ happens 😞

These were all my observations 2 weeks ago...now Mr Chairman it has been highlighted on here and
on the Southends forums .Chesterfield ,Wrexham, Stockport, Grimsby, etc have big away followings and word will get around on social media that you can do what you want at Lynn. Also all these teams have an element that will let's say accommodate any bother that comes their way.

Not to mention how some of our "older" season ticket holders will feel, having paid a FORTUNE for their tickets, then having to sit in their own home ground stand, surrounded by away fans!!That's hardly fair or the correct way to treat loyal and often very long term supporters.

Culverhouse in an interview said he was aiming  us to be around midway but he also said he suspected the Chairman was aiming higher

Well you always have to go into a new season with some “aims” and “hopes” but sometimes there’s a lot of difference between “aims” and realism!

The guy has gone to a lot of trouble putting that together.  All credit to him.  Interesting thoughts.

Think the Club is hoping to finish a little higher than his prediction

I think the club (and I certainly would!!) would be absolutely delighted if they finish even a couple of places lower than where he predicts!!!! Avoiding relegation must be the main target and would be a success.

He IS a businessman and that’s how they work (understandably).

I think it's fair to say that not all businessmen would agree with you on that one, especially if they are not a National Company and will ultimately depend on local support for the business.

Yup, you’re correct, that was a generalisation too far, I should have said SOME businessmen to be fair and also I shouldn’t have got Basil Fawlty involved either (damn auto spell!)

Well, prices are what they are now. I can't see them coming down if we remain at this level, even if the size of the gates prove them to be too expensive. My guess is that its been calculated that any drop off in home supporters numbers will be more than made up for by visiting supporters.

Not very "part of the community" thinking, but when charging top dollar for everything is the only weapon in your armory, then I guess a lot of us expected this.

Yes, good luck to Ian and his squad. I think it will be a real test for him this season, with what he has available to him.

I think you’ve probably hit the nail on the head there B&G in regards to prices and attendances.
When, sorry, IF, Lynn struggle this season then I can envisage some matches where the away support will outweigh the home support or at least be about equal. The “big clubs” will bring the big crowds regardless of the admission cost and Cleese knows that too.
Like you say, that’s not very fair on the longtime Lynn supporters. He IS a businessman and that’s how they work (understandably).
Good luck to the team for the season, going to be a very tough one and a struggle but if relegation is avoided, it will be a successful one.

Being a pessimistic, realist, I fear it might be more than just a "reality check"!!.....more like a forerunner for a lot of the season ahead :(

General Discussion / Re: Altrincham away Tuesday POSTPONED
« on: January 11, 2021, 12:51:40 PM »
Surely, it must be that the other players and staff have not been tested....or not tested within the correct timeframes (?).
If no one has been in contact with Jones since the 22nd, that's now 20 days ago, so if the remaining staff have a negative test now, they must be clear to play...or am I missing something.......... don't see why the Alty game would be off

Agree. I think there's more to this than we've been told so far......makes no sense to postpone this match which would be three weeks after the last contact Jones has had with anyone at the club!!.....Either this ISN'T true or the players are not getting tested regularly and therefore no matches should be taking place!...all in all the whole thing is a farce and surely football at our level should be put on hold NOW

......and as for Estate Agents etc still being open, then what on earth is the point of Johnson spouting on about a National lockdown?!! School classes are still around 50% of normal pupil size, public transport/London underground is heaving, 75% of shops are still open, its a complete joke, either lockdown everything but the absolutely essential or dont bother with a lockdown at all!

Excellent result and performance today it seems, so well done to the team. Not surprised at the low crowd attendance at all although it was even worse than I forecast.
