I think it’s maybe a case of him progressing through the levels and not leaping, that’s how he says it. Scoring for fun at Heacham and Downham is different than if he had joined Lynn and playing against the likes of Scunthorpe etc. Good luck to him.

Congratulations AL and team, NLN status assured. Even if Blyth were to beat both Scunthorpe and Brackley, the fact that Darlington and Farsley have to play each other, with both their goal differences, we are now safe.

I think it’s fair ti say that no manager wants to managing a team struggling at the wrong end of the table. The second half v Scarborough was concerning, but it happens. Years ago I remember Lynn being 3-0 down at home to Alvechurch with just 20 minutes to go, we went on to win 4-3. Scarborough’s 3rd goal came directly after what looked like a foul on Crowe, had the free kick been given we may have still won that game. AL came in to keep us at this level and we are almost there. Margetts has made a big difference so hopefully we have him for next season. The playing surface does need addressing and yes, it would make a difference. Not convinced on AL long term or his style of football, but let’s get through this season and then see what happens.

A point gained Mallard. Our 11 match unbeaten run is what will have kept us at this level. Teams below us still have to play one another. Blyth have just 2 games left, they are against Scunthorpe and Brackley. Not a particularly good listen on the radio today, but a valuable point. If we stay up and I am confident we will, then AL will have achieved his aim.

Totally agree Linnet. Being overran and outplayed in the second half, not keeping possession. The manager could see that, but he didn’t change anything. Definite foul on Crowe right in front of the linesman, but not given and then they made it 3-3. The target is to stay up and we are still looking good for that, big game at Banbury on Saturday.

Several games are remaining where the bottom clubs are playing one another. This is very good for us, as points have to be dropped by one of them. We are looking pretty safe I would say. Tough game Saturday at Scunthorpe, a point there would be very good. Great turnaround from a couple of months ago.

Josh Barrett and Theo look like they have been plucked from the lower reaches of the Aldershot and District Sunday league. Why start them together when Barrett is clearly not going to last until the second half? Sure enough he went off after 20 mins.
From their forum after losing to Fylde

Fosters Cigar, although AL hasn’t been the success we hoped for, there are still enough games left to play and we just need a win to lift morale / confidence. Would definitely stick with what we have. Margetts is a proven goal scorer and I am confident he will score a few, starting at Gloucester hopefully. It’s not been the prettiest football to watch, but as a fan you / we need to support through the not so good times as well as the good. AL did well at Curzon, he needs time and we still have enough, so everyone needs to stop with all the negativity, doom and gloom stuff and actually get behind the players and manager.

As I said a few days ago, Josh ‘departed’ Bristol Rovers for unacceptable fitness / application reasons. It was only a matter of time before he left us for the same reasons. I wish him well and sincerely hope he finds his way again. Before he came to Lynn, he admitted that he had fallen out of love with football. Good luck to him and Aldershot. I think if it’s Josh’s wages now paying Margetts, then maybe it wasn’t such a bad bit of business.

This is my first post for some time. Barrett was released from Bristol Rovers by their, then manager Paul Tisdale. Reasons being - Barrett’s fitness and application. Their previous manager Ben Garner also came very close to releasing him for the same reasons. Tisdale said it was in the interest if both parties and although he admitted that Barrett clearly had talent, it was in both parties interests for him to move on. He of course then signed for Reading. I know there are differing opinions on Josh, but it would appear that he has fallen back into his unwillingness to keep fit and apply himself correctly. With that sort of attitude, what would it be telling the other players if he was being picked every week. Barrett is showing disrespect to his team mates, fans, manager and chairman. As good a player as Josh was, or could be, he has clearly lost his way again. That’s a shame for the club and for himself. I think Lakeland is fast losing patience with him and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Josh depart. At least that would free up some money to maybe bring in a forward.

How can it be deserved when they finish 24 points behind top teams whats tyhe point in having a league.
I totally agree with you GS50. ProMotion via a play off should never have replaced automatic promotion, but instead should have provided 1 additional promotion. I do wish Kidderminster well in the National League, I just don’t think the current NLN play off system is correct and would like to see the top two go up automatically, with the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th go into play offs. That old mean more teams being relegated from the NL to accommodate. We got to the NL and because of covid, we were given a ‘free’ season, but if anything was learnt, it didn’t show because we got relegated in our second season. That is the really disappointing thing, because it’s so hard to get back. I’ve watched Lynn since the late 60’s, but do feel very much like you GS, what is the point in playing 46 games and after that you may have to play a team that finished more than 20 points above, or below you to decide a promotion spot. I won’t be watching Lynn next season to the same extent I did this season, unless the play off structure changes.

Our biggest game of the season coincided with our worst performance of the season - we didn't turn up.
However, Kidderminster were very good.
As for the Play Offs....... I have no problem with them - at the start of the season, all teams know the situation, which therefore makes it fair.
We had the chance to gain automatic promotion (as does every club at the start of the season) but unfortunately couldn't quite achieve it.
It's all "if's, buts and maybes" but a draw at home in the Fylde match instead of a one goal defeat, would have seen us champions
No, they are not fair. They should never have been a replacement for an automatic promotion, they should have been for an additional promotion spot. Yes, all teams know how the play offs work, I just think they should have kept the same automatic places and created an extra one fir the play offs. Good luck to Kidderminster, they were the better team today, but we were the better team over the 46 league games, which obviously counts for nothing.

Congratulations to Kidderminster, they were the better team today and deserved to win. Do Kidderminster or Brackley deserve to play National League football next season, no they don’t. Teams with the most league points should go up. I wish Kidderminster FC and their fantastic fans good luck for the final. We have done really well this season, with some great performances, today we were outclassed.

If two teams are to be promoted, then it should be the two teams with the most points over the season, the teams that rightly earned their promotion. There’s no play off to decide relegation. That could work too, bottom team relegated automatically, then have three games involving the 6 that finished above bottom and the losers all get relegated. Not going to happen, because the bottom 4 deserve to be relegated, like the top 2 deserve to be promoted.
Whereas I understand where you are coming from, the play offs have the potential of giving the Club an extra (circa) 10k paying customers through the gates over the three games. Big money spinner for those involved and could even be a bit of a financial life line to some clubs.
Also, it does keep the season alive and gives clubs something to play for. This season has been the very best example of that, with both the title and the play off places still up for grabs on the final day.
Yes, its a bit of a lottery (the same could be said for penalty shoot outs), but its probably the best of the options available.
Yes, I understand the reasoning, however it shouldn’t have replaced automatic promotion places, instead it should have been an addition. Have the two, or three automatic promotion places and then have play offs for one additional place. Whether that be from say 4 teams who were just outside a promotion place, or say 6 teams, with the other 2 teams coming from the league below who just finished above the automatic relegation places. That way, one extra team could get promoted, with another team getting relegated. Either way, the top finishing teams rightly get promoted, but the incentive is still there for others. Ok, subject closed, good luck to the Linners for Sunday. My friend says we will win 2-0, with Coulson and Clunan scoring. I will take that.
