General Discussion / Re: Joe's visit
« on: November 08, 2024, 12:19:43 PM »
And why did he stay at Travelodge ? Surely after coming all that way to see the Lynn set-up he'd want to stay in a local hotel. Don't imagine you get room service in a Travelodge.

Perhaps SC has a frequent user discount. Knowing him, he probably charged Joe hotel room price and kept the difference.

At least he seems to exist... maybe. Did anyone actually see him or talk to him ? Perhaps he's an actor...

Anyway, whoever Joe is and wherever the money comes from, SC gives me my football fix and for that I'm very grateful.

Thanks B&G and Kenny r. Sounds like it was just one of those things.

However well we play, luck and fate will always play too. Just ask Culverhouse.

Great to see that Margetts had some match time today albeit briefly. I hope it's a step forwards for him as we want him to recover sooner rather than later.

I wasn't expecting anything from today's match, so I'm not disappointed with the result.

Just out of interest, who got the OG ?

A welcome three points. It had all the makings of a one goal match and as usual we seemed to make hard work of it.

Gold looked completely disinterested... for a change. He needs to be told that he has to earn his starting place. Always arrived too late and avoided most tackles.

And before anyone mentions the 20 odd goals, I'm more than willing to be proved wrong.

The highlight for me was Coulson picking up lumps of grass and hammering them back into the pitch

Priceless!!!

I came up against this register or no access to news. I'm not impressed at all. I don't like being bullied into signing up just to have the honour of faster news and an email I don't want and probably won't read.

Since YLP has joined with Lynn News they have complete control and a monopoly over local news coverage. (I'm assuming that the EDP doesn't cover much news relating to the club)

I for one regret the passing of a free local paper.

General Discussion / The cost of the draw ?

Just looked to see if the return match tickets were available. Amazingly enough they are...but at league prices.

Greediness or oversight ? I won't be buying at that price.

The 28th September sounds good, but almost impossible to get there by train.

Hopefully SC will get a coach organised...or am I still deluded ?

Back in the good old days, there would be one or more. But now? who knows?

General Discussion / Re: Gold comes back

I, for one, was ambivalent when the ever inconsistent and frequently astonishing Gold moved on.

I can't pretend that I hadn't been as excited as the next man at what he could achieve...when he could be bothered.

And I can't challenge his record for goal scoring... when he could be bothered.

Or for his ability defending in the box...when he could be bothered.

But all of these skills... only when he could be bothered.

Is all this baggage Gold comes with, for both colleagues on the pitch and supporters in the grounds, just too much for all of us to truly be able to get behind him ?

And if Lakeland tries to tame him, will he just become a shadow of his former self ?

Are balls in nets really all that counts ?

Once again I find myself ambivalent. But willing to forgive his foibles if he comes up with the goods ?

If I can be bothered...

General Discussion / Home alone...
« on: June 09, 2024, 02:34:11 PM »
Anyone know why we only have one home pre-season friendly?

I would have expected several so that some cash comes into the coffers before the start of the season.

I can't see many supporters driving around the East of England to watch our lads plus the most famous of players, "Trialist"

Like many others, I think pre-season matches are a good way to work out who's who on the pitch.

Perhaps we don't need any income because Invisible Joe has a bottomless opal mine or some great land deals that will keep the club going.

General Discussion / Is anybody there ?
« on: May 15, 2024, 12:34:24 PM »
There has been a distinct lack of information coming from the club after the end of the season. Although why that surprises me, I really don't know.

Whilst I don't expect to hear about the players we're hunting down, it would be good to have news about sponsorship available for existing players, for example.

Perhaps a pre-season "meet the team" event for the kids with penalty shootouts against the players and autograph hunting opportunities.

Personally, I don't do "kids". But they are out future fans, maybe even future players.

As is obvious to anyone sitting in the stand, our supporters are... getting on a bit.

Unfortunately the area where I sit has been designated as "family" seating, which severely curtails my shouting !!!

But the kids are our future, quite literally.

Is it just me, or has Cleeve handed the AI a handful of "Cleeve" words and let it run riot ?

With his "luck" in retaining back of house staff, perhaps he should cut out the middle man and just let AI run the show. Couldn't do much worse.
The only way is up.

General Discussion / Re: Play offs
« on: April 28, 2024, 12:59:10 PM »
It all comes down to the level of drama that can be created.

The whole point of the current playoff setup is that it gives the "underdog" the chance to get promotion. Then more drama when they are fighting to stay in the league. And even more drama when they crash straight back down again.

It's not done in any way for the good of that "lucky" club, it's purely for the TV and media soundbites. Money talks.

By the way, who's got the money tree at the moment ? I'd like to borrow it for a while...

General Discussion / Re: Adam Lakeland Interview
« on: April 17, 2024, 10:14:50 PM »
I wonder if some of the problem here is the more "mature" supporters continually harking back to yesteryear.

Whilst I'm sure that we all wish certain players were still around, the basic facts are that nostalgia alone will not help us going forward.

Those wonderful players of memory, were seldom as great as we think looking back.

Personally, I absolutely hate it when we play from the back and invite our opponents to get past us.

And, as for "hoofball", just don't get me started !

But I accept that all methods to get our ball into their net have to be an option for the manager.

Give me ugly football every time, if that's what it takes.

General Discussion / Re: Backie - get well soon
« on: March 30, 2024, 11:42:42 AM »
I absolutely wish Backie all the best. I understand how frustrating and disabling FND can be as I have it myself. You really never know how a day will turn out. As for making plans... forget it !

It can affect you in many different ways from exhaustion to pain, from falling over to depression, from speech to balance.

On my "worst" day it looks like I'm having a stroke. Speech, co ordination, brain fog and my legs forget that they're supposed to hold me up.

In my case I try to be optimistic and friends and family support you once they understand how it can affect you day to day.

All the best, Backie.
