Why should it be expected that musicians play for free?

Access direct to Extons Road from Goodwins Road is still closed with single lane and traffic lights on the main road near the ground.

Yes. There is access via Avenue Road but that is a route down the middle of the parked cars in Avenue Road and the blind corner to negotiate near the railway crossing... and the same way back to get out.

General Discussion / Extons Road is closed

Currently there are traffic lights and a single lane operating on Goodwins Road at the Extons Road crossroads near the ground. There is no direct access to the regular parking spots that many people use in Extons Road and Holcombe Avenue.

I doubt if this will be cleared by tonight and will update later.

General Discussion / Re: Joe Taylor
« on: September 16, 2022, 09:51:22 PM »
Didn’t surprise me that IC didn’t rate Joe Taylor enough to give him a chance.  Too many ex-pros talk and think in cliches, and Chairmen employ them on the strength of them sounding like they know the game !  They all talk about “Character, physicality, strength, winning fouls”, etc….That’s how they miss good players…A manager will appear one day who goes on what he can see on the pitch, and not go on the cliches - and he or she will clean up !!!

Dilly, your 'jumpers for posts' notion has moved on, sadly.  You and I may have had the benefit 'years ago' of watching the likes of Bobby Charlton who honed his art early by kicking a tennis ball against a wall.. Left foot - Right foot.....    Football is different now, whether we like it or not!
Quite possibly, Joe Taylor was guided through the youth ranks at Lynn, matured accordingly and moved on at the right time for him. All good fortune wished for Joe.

General Discussion / Re: Chester away
« on: September 02, 2022, 07:10:42 PM »
Away games are all going to be hard and Chester will be no exception. It is still too early to look at league positions. Boston lost in the play off final last season, yet they currently sit bottom. A draw away from home is normally regarded as good.
Barrett certainly had an impact after coming on, so not an easy decision for TW to make as to his starting 11. Suspect though that Barrett will be on the bench, but probably come on earlier this time. Someone said that his goal was the best they had seen by a Lynn player. I remember Lynn v Wisbech in an FA Cup qualifying round. I think it was 1980, or 1981. Malcolm Lindsay had left Lynn and was playing for Wisbech, we went a goal down and from the restart, the ball was tapped to Neville Algar who lobbed the Wisbech keeper from the half way line to level. We ended up losing 2-1 and if my memory is correct, it was Lindsay who got their winner.

Prediction for Chester is CC 1-2 KL.

Good that someone else remembers Nev's goal. Neville was the most naturally gifted local player I know of.   It was more like a 35 yard strike into the top corner, as I recall.   Nev's goal hardly got a mention after the match, as Malcolm's winner for Wisbech took the headlines.

It is a single lane and there are traffic lights between Extons Road and the mini roundabout near the Goodwins Hall Care Home (this section is actually part of Goodwins Road).          Tennyson Avenue is the other side of the railway lines from the football ground.

A real fashion statement... Will look lovely up against the green and white at Blyth Spartans.

It is worrying for the Premier League players.  New contracts will be being signed for £150,000 a week, what with inflation, next season they'll hardly be worth £135,000 a week.

How many teams will be in National League North in 2022-23 season?
24
AFC Fylde, AFC Telford United, Alfreton Town, Banbury United, Blyth Spartans, Boston United, Brackley Town, Bradford (Park Avenue), Buxton, Chester, Chorley, Curzon Ashton, Darlington, Farsley Celtic, Gloucester City, Hereford, Kettering Town, Kidderminster Harriers, King's Lynn Town, Leamington, Peterborough Sports, Scarborough Athletic, Southport, Spennymoor Town.

Mid table 'stability' will be a satisfactory outcome.

Many of us will have memories of seeing Malcolm play and scoring so many goals for Lynn. Also, catching up with him watching local football in more recent times.

Personally, I will always remember having the good fortune of playing in the same team as Malcolm in a pre-season 'friendly' game, some time after he had retired from playing professionally. I was in goal and during the pre-match kick about, Malcolm shot from 20 yards out....and I will never forget the pace at which the ball passed my shoulder before I could raise my hands.

"Ya s'posed ta catch those" was Malcolm's unforgettable advice.

Thoughts are with Malcolm's family and friends at this time
