Dave Partridge, played on the left wing in the early sixties, on the other wing, Ronnie Bacon, 2 great wingers! The days when you had 5 forwards.

Big Jack was great for us, but a much younger  local player years ago went a long way, and ended up with a bad injury, I am talking about Andy Hunt, check out his C.V.

General Discussion / 3 Home games on the trott.

Not for the first time we have 3 home games together, at todays prices with an average of 10 to get in, plus food, tote , programme etc, the Southern League is asking fans to fork out around 40 this week. Why couldn't the Snots game be played between the 2 away matches? Or did the club have a choice?

Agree with Chilly, another one of Setches experiments. he is a good wide player, and always gives 100%.

We made hard work of that last night, we should have been out of sight after an hour, NU started to move the ball quicker in the last 30 minutes, and I wasn't surprised at their late reply. Pedro got my man of the match vote, some great saves including in the shoot out.
I.C. is correct about a striker, Toby and Dylan did not take their chances last night, they still have time to make an impression but there are only a few games left.

As a matter of interest, our last 5 home league games of season 1995-96 the average attendance was 1813 !

Mallard is right, lets give the boss a few games to try out certain things, see who wants to play for the club, and lets see where we are come Christmas, I think we will be in with a shout for promotion. I also think we will get a decent crowd Saturday , it was music to my ears when IC we wanted to bring in a passing game. Lets hope we have the players to see it through.

Some good points raised about I.C. First, lets give him a chance some of you have already thrown in the towel, he has a few matches left
to look at the squad, and try different styles, I for one cannot see many players leaving, they will want to prove them selves and they have time to do it. Marcus Rose wanted to know why Setch wasn't given the extra money for a striker, well his history of getting in strikers speaks for itself. IC  will not know any of the players, so there will be a no mates culture and it will all start on a level playing field. as for Saturday at Hitchin I will be pleased if we add another draw to the list, as they are a good team. Good luck Ian, you will soon know if you are failing!

I think our chairman has been very brave rather than foolish. I do not know the man but anybody who takes over a non league club is taking a big chance. I am one of the people who think the time for change is now, not next season when we look like ending up mid table, there a lot of you on this site that do not have the bottle to say so.  Setch found his level here, and made lots of friends on the way, but as a coach the football was poor and never looked like changing. we can have 2 or 3 strikers playing but without the service its a waste of time. I think the new manager may already be at the club. and he is a on the floor footballer. don't knock the chairman until it goes belly up. if it does?

Going back a few seasons wasn't there a team in the old Jewson league tried to improve on their average gate of around 110? What they tried was free entry, and pay what you like, if you think it was worth anything, putting the money in buckets on the way out, they made twice as much as normal as nearly 500 turned up and for the rest of the season they gained on average another 40 fans. everyone a winner!
