General Discussion / Interesting where we could be.
« on: August 30, 2016, 01:50:33 PM »
The current league table tells a story.  In the final play off place sit Frome, where Lynn took 3 points from on Saturday.  They sit that position with 13 points having dropped 8 points already.  Oh for a full squad.  Two Points dropped at Home to Merthyr  2 more in the home game v Cambridge then with a players to bring in yesterday and leading 1-0 could be another 3 down the drain...lets not be greedy and say we would have taken a point.   That's 5 points.  Guess who would be sitting in the final Play-off place ?

We didn't have a good summer, player wise.  Maybe too much budget thrown at 2 few bodies ( John sands looks a massive one) and it looks the same old story as the last few season in getting people in.

Is it time that someone else got involved in bringing players in ? Sure Setch has to identify what he needs, but Setch's record on 7 days notice baring fruit is a little disappointing to say the least.  Seems time to recall  Bonney who wasn't half bad at that.

General Discussion / Shirt Sponsorship
« on: August 23, 2016, 10:51:05 AM »
With 10% of the games having already been played will the value of the shirt sponsorship now be 10% less ?   After last weeks fine speech about 2/3 offers being on the table by Monday or Tuesday of last week, surely it cannot be that difficult to select one of them ?

If this is affecting Setch's  budget then this is poor play from the Chairman/Owner.   Maybe Mark Hearle could do another scripted interview for an update.

General Discussion / Lord Napier offer
« on: August 18, 2016, 01:34:07 PM »
How will Cleevy and the Club respond to the offer the Lord Napier have made ?  Will they go head to head ?  Did Cleevy say that the bar would be open at 12.30 for live games of a Saturday ?  Do BT even show games at that time ?

General Discussion / Cambridge City home

With Setch saying in his interview this is a must win game. No defeat no draw, must win. Where does this leave him if the 3 points are not gained ? Will he the one to fall on his sword or will he wait for the sack to come ?

He, by his own admission has had a poor summer, with poor judgment made in certain cases. We don't have a big enough squad for mistakes.

If Sands and Gaughan are not fit, where does the blame for that lay ? The players, Mills/Fryatt or Setch himself ? If those 2 are being left out for being unfit who will start in their place ? With only 4 first defenders in the squad, no Fryatt no Gaugran leaves us very thin in terms of replacement. In truth the Squad looks a mess. Sands is unfit we can assume. Hardly surprising when he missed most of pre season injured then is permitted away on holiday a week before the season starts. Could anyone imagine Carl Heggs allowing any of his squad to pull that one ? My guess is they would have been shown the door.

The real plus is we have Cambridge Tuesday who seem to have had a poor start to the season and would be there for the taking to get us up and running. Let's not forget we doubled them last season.

We need to get players in and quick.

Big night coming for certain players Setch and the fans.
Fingers crossed that Setch can pull this around, if not let's hope he has the good grace to do the decent thing and admit he has taken it as far as he can and pass the baton on.

General Discussion / Banbury away
« on: August 10, 2016, 01:31:37 PM »
After a disappointing start to the season  a tough one coming up Saturday.  With the defence having shipped 5 last night  The defence needs some shoring up.   How has young Ward started for the Reserves this season ?  Big things were hoped of him when he was with us before.  Must be at least worth a place on the bench.

General Discussion / St Neots away
« on: August 09, 2016, 08:30:42 AM »
I see they lost 2-0 to Banbury on Saturday and had a few players missing through injury ( Ryan Hawkins). Charlie Butt came on from the bench.

How do we see it going tonight ?

I fancy our first 3 point haul of the season... 3-1 Sands, Mettam and Edge

General Discussion / Guarantee Play offs
« on: August 09, 2016, 08:18:48 AM »
According to Cleevy if we can get gates of 1200 then we will make the play-offs.

Average gate last season of 490 ish with the same budget set for this season that an increase on income of Circa over 7k per home game, plus spin off sales.  Or 3.5k per week.

We could bring 7 more Mettams for that.

By The way when was the last season we averaged 1200 ?

General Discussion / Edge n Hilliard or Sands n Mettam
« on: July 31, 2016, 06:44:30 PM »
Who would you start Saturday. After pre season it would be a massive kick in the gonads for the young pairing of the other 2 start ahead of them. However Money talks. That's a lot of wonga to leave on the bench.

General Discussion / Final Friendly v Lowestoft.
« on: July 29, 2016, 05:33:30 PM »
Hopefully Setch will be able to go with his intended starting line up at some point during the game in readiness for Next Saturday.  Injuries and holidays permitting. Be good if Sands and Mettam can get some game time on the field at the same time as I don't think they have played together as yet. Hopefully they will gel together quite quickly. Lot of hopes being pinned on their joint shoulders

General Discussion / Spalding at Home Friendly.

I see we have 2 games on tomorrow evening.  What time are the Reserves kicking off at Dersingham ?  Wouldn't mind grabbing the first half of that one then dashing back to the Walks to watch the first team.

Have both teams got full squads available  ?

Where are you Backie ?  :laughcry:

Can see that working at The Walks with a couple of Local Derby's being played.  Maybe Downham and WSM  would draw a decent crowd.

General Discussion / Grim Night for English Football
« on: June 28, 2016, 08:17:29 AM »
What a performance that was against Iceland last night.  Hodgson has gone, thankfully, but he cant take total blame for that last night.  As talented a squad as we have had for a good few years, but just didn't deliver.   Interesting that with all the new formations that have come into play over the last few years, Iceland outplayed us with a basic 4-4-2 formation, and we couldn't cope.

Any thoughts people and who would you like to see given the main job ?  If they go English (I always think it should be English)  the list wont be very long.

Eddie Howe for me, Young, His team plays the right way, give some Young Manager a chance.

General Discussion / Everything is in place.
« on: June 27, 2016, 02:58:44 PM »
Just 12 days away from the first friendly and it is looking like all systems go for the Promotion challenge.

New Owner who is prepared  to support the manager with a decent budget.
Not one but 2 strikers with proven track records that we haven't had since Defty was shown the door.
A returning midfield player who will go box to box all day.
A wide player with pace who can score goals
A Youth Set-Up finally in place to form a full production line (U16's & U18's) to the Reserves and finally to the first team.
A return to the feel good factor among the fans that has been missing for a few years
An Owner who says he intends to embrace the playing Public and make them feel very much part of the Club
Improved catering  at the Ground to include, not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 ( yes FOUR) Chefs from the George Hotel at Cley
A Full Time First Team manager who is out there this summer working on the commercial side.

Have I missed anything ?
