That’s hardly anything new.   I think that conversation has been happening amongst many people from the early days of Cleeve having his feet under the table.   Only have to look at the high turnover of backroom staff he has gone through.   Have things got any better ? More likely got worse.

It’s all seat of the pants stuff.  Maybe best for Lakeland to just concentrate on the playing side.  That should be enough for him to be concerned about as a paid employee.

How far down the pyramid will the Regulators remit oversee Paul ?

Gateshead thrown out of the National League play offs by the EFL because they don’t have at least 10 years left on their ground lease

Certainly one to forget this one.   In the end it was job done.  AL has an important couple of months ahead in terms of recruitment.

Which of the Lynn owned players would you keep for next season ?

Jones
McFadden
Hargreaves
Walker ( a given)
Margetts
Crowe
Stephens
Hughes

Jones as back up to Dixon-Hodge, Hargreaves, Margetts and Crowe.

If the budget allows Stephens as Hughes as squad players.

Need someone like Barrows (right back who can also play centre half) plus two new centre halves, 2 new midfielders and a couple of forwards as a minimum, I would think.

All need to be hard working fit individuals with experience at this level. If they have a bit of flair, that's a bonus. Times have moved on........Bowles, Marsh, Currie etc, although fun in the day wouldn't get in a starting eleven these days unless their fitness and work rate improved dramatically .
Any player who has the required fitness level for NL and great flair to go with it , will be in the EFl.......we have to be realistic in terms of the football we expect, I feel.......the only exception would be the inducement of a huge budget and wages to attract EFL players in (Wrexham for example).

Listening to AL post match interview from Saturday.  It very much sounded like Dixon Hodge might not be part of the squad next season.  Or am I reading to much into what was said ?

With drastic work being carried out on the pitch ( think it was Paul on here who suggested this) and with a summer recruitment by Lakeland then there seems no reason why we shouldn’t expect a more ‘attractive’ brand of Football.

If SC still has his ambition of EFL football then we need to have a budget toward to the upper end of this league.   With Joe’s money, a decent surface and AL first full season then the expectation levels should be set at ‘very high’   Just need the stars to align

That’s spot on Linnets.  We have players who are playing at this level for a reason.  In turn we also have a Manager who is at this  level for the same reason.

I saw Clifford was back in for the last game.  Was that cos we were low on defensive numbers or his loan spell having run it’s course.   If Lakeland can get Barrow in then Ronan is gonna struggle.  Still think we can do better if Barrow doesn’t join in the summer.

Agree  re- Hargreaves.  Really surprised TW didn’t come sniffing after him last summer.  Then again he did take Junior. Nepotism over common sense  there it would seem.

Lord, what’s your thoughts on Coulson, can he do another season at this level ?   I guess it depends who he gets partnered with.

Thanks for the info LM.  Not sure that Lakeland fancies Clifford ( was loaned out).Under contract players can still be moved on.  No point in keeping them onboard if they don’t figure in the plans.  Not sure the other two mentioned  would help you get to the play offs.

Interesting summer.

Looking at next season the relegation from The National League and Club being promoted from step 3 are beginning to take shape.   Kiddie coming back down and Radcliffe coming up.   Will Needham Market be joining the NLN from the Southern League Central ?   That would be a tough gig for them travel wise.

I agree CF. I don’t expect Lynn or anyone at this level to play out from the back in the style of Pep.  You see so many ‘lesser’ teams getting caught out trying to emulate that style.

There is a still away of playing without it being all about % football and winning 2nd balls and just getting it up to a 9 for him to hold up and play  from there.   AL in his interview was saying he would always back his team to outrun and be fitter than any team, full time or otherwise at this level.

I think next season will prove very interesting.  I hope the fans come in their numbers and buy into it.

That’s great Paul,  it’s all about winning Football for you.  100% get that.  Sure it’s great to see us win but to win in style is somewhat more satisfying ( imho).  I guess we were spoilt at this level under Culverhouse ( though he could switch styles when needed) with his possession based game.

The pitch being sorted could well give AL options in terms of plan’s A, B, C etc.

Tamworth certainly have shown the way how to win a Step 2 League without a doubt.  Be interesting to see how that style works at the next level.

Lakeland was brought in to do a job.  The job was too keep us up after the mess Hughes had left us in.  It seems from AL’s interview nothing was right within the playing structure.

The Manager has succeeded in delivering on his first remit.  Next season will be about challenging in the play offs for Promotion.  That might take a different skill set.   Will we see attractive Football back at the Walks next season?  My guess not on that pitch unless some serious money is spent on it.  Also I think AL’s style isn’t all about free flowing, ball retaining football but more about % football with physically strong, fit players.

I guess if it’s winning football then will the fans care  what they are watching

Just watched AL 15min interview after the Sports game.   Interesting insight into what the hopes are for next season.  Has a hit list drawn up for  who he wants in for next season.

Puts a bit more meat on the bone to the mess inherited when he entered the building earlier in the season.  Was very critical Of the standard recruitments last summer.  I guess the likes of Bartley, Clifford,Oke, Smith, Spence etc could fall into that category.    Who was actually behind last summer’s new signings ?

To me the one glaring mistake in recruitment terms was Mark Hughes being appointment by Stephen Cleeve.  The rest followed behind that.

Well yes, BUT.....

If he didn't have the money for anything better at the time, what was he supposed to do?

No secret what Club finances were like when he decided to give the job to Hughes, and also in fairness to Hughes, that would also have hindered his recruitment.

Things then improved with finances and AL coming in.

A question is if Joe's money was just used to get us to the end of the season (I seem to remember the Chairman saying that 300k was needed to do that  :dontknow:), or if are there surplus funds for AL to use on his shopping list for next season.  :dontknow:

It wasn’t just the lack of quality AL was bemoaning but the state of the fitness levels in the players and everything else he found when he came in.

Sounds very much like AL ( with Joe’s cash) dug SC out of a very big hole that he had put himself in.
