General Discussion / Re: National League AGM
« on: July 02, 2021, 10:44:54 AM »
we have a single sniper feverishly trying to hit it, missing, reloading firing again, clipping the outside of it, reloading firing again, missing.....

Maybe, but the thought of the alternative was, and still is, horrifying.

Back to football. If the Sport needs money at certain levels, the Football Authorities need to ensure it comes from where it currently is, and is then distributed to those who needs it (after due diligence).

Understand where you are coming from B & G, but........

the Government has a very big decision to make re businesses going forward.........there are vast numbers, like the football club that have only been running at 50% at best through all of this over the last 18months. Does the Government cut off the support and let them go under or does it propthem up for longer ? One of the difficulties throughout this has been the lack of a clear plan for business people going forward. I personally am in that position with my self employed business....I can't see it operating at more than 60% for the rest of the year...will I get the support to make it viable or will I have to supplement it /replace it with something else. SC is in a similar position.....the Government really should be providing clarity NOW for  the support they will or won't give in relation to different scenarios.

It's difficult all round.

Just my opinion, but some people involved with the running of the sport seem to think they are a special case.

They're not!

Obviously it would be nice to know exactly what the Government plan going forward, but I believe we have to accept we are dealing with a moving target.

I'm sure every business has its own problems caused by the Pandemic. What we can or cannot do has/will depend on the type of business it is. For example my office doors have been closed since March last year! No footfall at all! That's been a problem that we have had to deal with and we have dealt with it. What we haven't done is take on more debt to survive. We have cut our cloth accordingly and certainly haven't increased our expenditure. In such uncertain times, any business that has taken on more debt AND increased expenditure at the same time must be prepared to accept the consequences. Its been their choice and if things go wrong, they can't point the finger at others.

Why should the tax payer give more money to Companies that obviously do not need it, as proven by them when they increase their expenditure?

It's not a case of one size fits all. Just because a Company has been running on a lower income stream, does not mean they should be able to obtain more money. In the case of football, lets not forget how much money there is in the Sport itself, even if it is in the wrong hands. If ever there has been a time when the Sport needs to help itself and repair a broken image, then this is it.

Whatever the Government decide to do won't suit everyone anyway. For example when this all kicked off and the Government were attempting to keep the virus out of the country, business people were calling foul due to the initial restrictions they imposed. These are very likely to be the same people that are now shouting from the rooftops that the Government should have acted faster and harder at the time, as we could have then avoided the lock downs being so severe and prolonged. It's a no win situation.

We just have to get on with whatever the rules/guidelines/plans are at this moment in time, and be aware that these could change at anytime.

All just IHMO.

So if there is a limit on capacity then we can assume the season will still start.  If it stays as it is at the moment then only around 1200 fans will be admitted to The Walks.   Can Lynn survive on those numbers?

They'll have to.

It is what it is, just like any other business.

Well that actually seems to make sense.....pleased it states grant funding rather than additional loans

There's been enough grants (and loans that will probably never be paid back) already.

If they are not confident that they can fund their own business's, then don't start until the spectators are allowed back in.

Good luck for tonight Malcolm.

I hope your enthusiasm gets the support it deserves, both from the Club officials and the Supporters.
