General Discussion / Re: Dylan Edge

Histon at full strength minus 1 so a good performance by the Lynn team. Setch was chuffed that Histon put out such a strong side to give the young lads a good workout although I expect he was a bit disappointed with the result. IMO Matty Castellan and Dylan Edge stood out  and I thought Birdy was doing well before injury. In the second half some of the lay offs from Dylan were excellent but the shooting was poor. If Dylan could have made those passes to himself we probably would have won easily. That's a bit tongue in cheek maybe bbut the passes were that good.

That's a great piece of info Richard. Were King's Lynn in the Southern league at the time? Was that and the Northern league the top level of non league football at that time, and until the National Football League (Conference) was formed?

You are right there Cary but it was still spending more than we could afford chasing a dream.

Except for the one and bit seasons in Conference North this is as high as the Linnets have ever achieved and that wonderful time bust the club. Be careful what you wish for.

As you say Cary it would likely be short term and we have had proven, at a higher level, short term strikers that have probably cost a lot of money for not a lot. If Setch could bring in a proven goal scorer who was keen to play for the Linnets, not just the money then I wouldn't disagree, but that's asking Setch to perform miracles. I believe the young strikers will produce enough goals between them to get us in the top half of the table which is the target Setch has set. I have to keep raising the name but Dylan Edge is a real talent, in the few short appearances he has made for Setch he has shown himself capable of getting in the right places to score but added to that he has set up goals which have won us games.
As for Simon Bird Rod when the senior players return, fit, then Setch has the sort of problem all mangers want, together with Matty Castellan, competition for places, keeps players keen. Thankfully for us Setch has to make that decision and good luck to him.

Exactly Rod, I think we have some youngsters who will make the grade but if we sign this super striker, on big money, what will happen to Dylan, Toby and Sam? Having seen a lot of Dylan this season he will score goals at a higher level than King's Lynn, maybe much higher. Setch knew what he was doing signing him on contract. I will stick with what we've got thank you.
Can't agree with that one Rod, thats a decision for Setch  and I would rather have his experience in the team, all the youngster will learn more playing games with Steve, Sam G and David Bridges.

Simon Bird is 22 and has played at level 5 as a youngster. it was a mad scramble to get him signed and paperwork in before other teams, particularly Swaffham, well done Backie who obviously new Simon well. He has been the outstanding player for the reserves this season and it his no surprise he has made the step up. He was signed for the reserves to play centre half or midfield so he has plenty of strings to his bow. We should not forget Matty Castellan 20, and Dylan Edge 17, who were playing level 6 last season and have proved that the ability is there to make the step up. Exciting times.

It's a shame we won then all the moaners could have a real moan. Goalkeepers mistakes will be costly most of the time and will always look bad. If you add up the saves he has made I am sure they would be way ahead of his mistakes. Who would you sign to replace him? Stevo has been carrying an injury for most of the season but in a lot of games he has been outstanding. It was Gaughrans first game back after injury and I am sure Setch wants him up to speed asap and he will get there playing games. While we have so many youngsters in the team we need the experience off Gaughran and Stevenson, both on and off the pitch. WE DID WIN, AGAIN.
I think Setch would like to sign a striker who will score 20 goals or more Cary but where are they and are any available. Other than Lowestoft we will not find better than what we have got locally IMO.

When youngsters move up to 11 a side they play on a full pitch, by my reckoning this will be their second season at thi slevel.

Amazing what can be done with a football man in charge. Setch now has a larger squad so team selection will be a bit of a headache but thats what every manager wants, competition for places. Well done Setch.

From 'Captains Blog'

"Finally it is great to see so many young lads from the area playing for Kings Lynn Town Football Club, It goes to show if you work hard and impress in the youth team or reserves you will get a chance with the first team. Look at the likes of Dylan Edge who has scored goals all season for the youth team and reserves, he has been given the chance to play and train with the first team and has fitted in superbly. The opportunity is there for young players at the club".

We are getting there, by my reckoning 11 of the 15 players on Tuesday night are local, 3 out of the five injured players are local. All the reserves and U18's plus managers and coaches from the 3 teams are local, except David Bridges. But I think David and Lee Stevenson should be considered honorary local for their commitment to the club. Well done Setch what a difference you are making.

Congratulations to Setch hope we have a great win on Saturday to celebrate.

300 GAMES UP

It will be Gary Setchell’s 300th game as manager of Kings Lynn Town  when he takes charge of the team at Belper Town on Saturday, the team has come along way since Setch first took charge when the team was reformed and playing in the United Counties Premier Division. Speaking to Setch last night he recalls the game against Sheffield which clinched the league title as one of his highlights as Lynn Manager.

Injuries are still a concern for Lynn with the same players likely to miss the trophy game, Simon Bird and Liam Fryatt look likely to keep there places in the team after impressing against Biggleswade
Belper Town, known as The Nailers, were relegated having finished bottom of the Premier Division last season and are currently 18th in the Division One South having won four of their fourteen league games. King’s Lynn last game at Belper was a 3-3 draw with Bell, Bridges and Thomson getting the goals. Lynn will be hoping for a win as the winners will receive £2700 prize money.
