Once all the squad are fit and not suspended the squad does not look so bad and if Setch gets the players he wants then the season could be very good. Any news on the Northampton lad Setch seemed to think he had him for the FA Cup? What the Chairman, manager and team have achieved over the last few weeks they deserve our full support.

I am sorry Loopy but the Gris and Loopy show are boring everyone to death and is serving no useful purpose. The announcement of the very important meeting between the Trust and Mr Cleeve and the fact that proposals are being put to the Trust membership could be the boost the club needs. I certainly hope so.

I doubt it very much as it is what the pitch needs. Hope to see you there.

Let's hope not Marcus. Hopefully this will lead to a working relationship between Mr Cleeve and the trust and a great step forward for the Linnets.

Over the next couple of weeks I expect there will be some HUMBLE PIE eaten by those who have continually doubted Mr Cleeve, some even implying that he is telling porkies, others thought he was mad trying to get away sponsors but he has managed short sponsors as well. Several suggested he should grab anything that was offered rather than wait until he got companies who are doing it for the right reasons. As the away shirt and short sponsors have been announced before an away game the home shirt/short sponsors may be announced before/at the Harlow FA cup game, seems logical to me. As Backie has just pointed out we even have Corporate sponsors. That humble pie better be a large one.

I have not seen the report but I am pretty certain that the problem is parasitic nematodes which destroy the grass roots hence a pitch with little grass on. I am sure that the grass was further damaged by the excess rain we had in the second half of the season. Nematode damage is pretty common on football pitches and golf courses, pesticides are not really available and things like leaving the grass a bit longer can help. The quality of the turf on our pitch seems pretty poor and chucking a load of seed down may help in the the short term but is not long lasting. I do not think its a problem that has suddenly appeared but has been building  up over the years. Also IMO over the last few seasons far too much top dressing (sand based)has been used but none was used in the summer hence the very rough surface on the pitch at present. If I am correct in the above the fairly drastic action that was recommended to Buster is the only way to go but it will cost serious money and a long term plan needs to be in place to keep a decent turf. Any Sponsors out there?

Maurice has been at the club with the new groundsman as he was having difficulty with the lines!!! You need to walk on the pitch to see how bad it is and in all probability why the grass is longer than normal. While now is a good time for working on lawns etc. there is very little that can be done to improve what we have got. If we get the very wet late winter early spring this season  it could be a mud bath.

Of course Mallard but with all the problems the club seem to have it is still down near the bottom of a very long list.

Your right Andy just putting a new surface on. While that is a massive outlay there are grants available and I do not think it would be long before the pitch was used seven days a week as at Sudbury. With that in place recouping the money might not take long. Mallard et al would be really happy with the white lines, perfectly straight as well.

I am only trying to point out Rod that in comparison with the poor pitch the lines are not worth all the angst being shown on here. As someone who usually stands near the pitch I know it is impossible to see the lines but having spent the second half of the reserves last game they can be clearly seen. My thoughts were if the grass was cut shorter it would easier to see them but the pitch will deteriorate much quicker if they do  that and people will be able to see how bad it really is.

General Discussion / KL Reserves v Holland FC this Saturday
« on: September 07, 2016, 12:15:52 PM »
Hope to see a good crowd on Saturday  for the match against newly promoted Holland FC. The reserve support has held up well so far this season but we can always do with a few more people through the gate. Look forward to seeing you there.
