General Discussion / Re: Stamford v St Neots

Without a doubt Sudbury have the best set up with an artificial pitch that gets played on regularly sometimes 3 or 4 games on the same day, they have a full academy and also rent it out to local clubs.  Buster & Setch went to look at it and had the pitch priced for the Walks but at 500k and relaying after 10 years Buster considered it too expensive. They also have a great newly built clubhouse which is used all the time including renting out for weddings etc. They managed it by selling a piece of land which financed what they have now.

If you sit in the stands you can see all the lines clearly and as far as I am aware the referees have not complained. Compared to the pitch this is of little consequence and just a vehicle for people to moan about. Sands money is part of the manager's budget and he needs more players not a line marker. As Ikon said 'speak to Mr Cleeve' I noticed at half time he was speaking to several supporters so should not be a problem for you Mallard.

Due diligence on the pitch and mower??? Even if he found the pitch to be poor there was nothing he could have done about it to have it ready for this season. The only way it can be fixed is as I said in my post and that needs to be done the day after season end to have any chance of being ready for the next season. I cannot believe all these posters trying to defend Buster on this matter its a joke.

The Chairman is not responsible for the state of the pitch as it is now. The previous Chairman had the grond assessed and there was/is a problem that can only be resolved by digging it up, treating it and turfing/seeding. We were told that at the time. However Buster, who obviously had inside knowledge regarding the future of the club, decided to have it seeded onto what was already a very poor surface, hence the very poor pitch. He also left the poor equipment to look after the pitch, hence the FOTL paying for a new mower. Anyone want to provide the club with decent lining equipment?

Mascot Competition

Back in June we announced that the football club would be holding a Mascot Competition for all the local schools in the area, and the winning entry would be made into a life size mascot for the football club. We have had many schools and children from various ages enter the competition, last night all the entries was judged by a panel of Mark Hearle, Robbie Back and Paul Bland the winning entry will be announced at one of the home matches at the end of September and the schools will be invited to attend the game.

The Football club would like to thank all of the schools and children who entered the competition.

Another positive link to the community by the club.

With the exception of the two year contract. WE all know he signed a two year contract. Read what is written and stop making statements about me that are not true, I was telling the truth you were making it up

You can say that again Paul. I do not promote Mr Cleeve in any way. I thought Buster kept the club on an even keel financially and after the previous crowd that was very welcome, however I was glad he went in the end. With his speedway and family difficulties etc he was not giving any time to the club. I believe last season many on here were happy to see Setch as GM and that was Busters decision.
Setch tells me that Mr Cleeve is working very hard on behalf of the club, I wouldn't have a clue.
Again Mallard you are making statements about the reserve players of which you know nothing. IMO the only other players, besides those on the bench, who are capable of playing for the 1st team are Simon Bird and he was not available, and a long shot is young Harnwell who I know Setch has is eye on but he is 16/17 and injured. What little of Mettam I have seen I think he needs a big man beside him rather than being the target, hopefully Setch will find one. As much as I admire Dylan and think he could be a top player it would not be fair to make him the clubs main striker now, it could be very detrimental to his future.
No PR tosh at all Mallard and whatever I say is how I see it and not some statement I know nothing about, unlike yourself.

A bit hasty Robbo. You are one of the few people on this forum who go to games home and away and give your honest and fair assessment of the games. Most people seem to come on here to have a go at Setch and the team. The team yesterday gave it all they had against one of the strongest clubs at this level, they deserve applause for that especially on the back of a great performance at Frome two days earlier. But what do we get every negative people can dream up, the players deserve better than that. I followed the feed on the Frome game and very much enjoyed those who were having a go at everything to do with the club after we went  1-0 down only to be made to look ridiculous when we won 3-1.
Kern left before Mettam was signed but following Stamford he doesn't seem to be doing very well at level four.

The two others Mallard play either left back or midfield, and again you are assuming, with no knowledge of the reserves, that they are capable of replacing Hilliard, Stevenson or Gaughran. Your other statements are ridiculous the manager put the squad together and one player, who the fans were desperate for, lets the club down and with two difficult matches in 48 hours against strong sides Setch had to go with six injured players. I don't car who the manager is he would find it very difficult to deal with that before the end of August. Then you say he must demand more from the owner than is currently in the kitty, a fast way to a bankrupt club, again. I doubt Mr Cleeve is the easiest man to deal with.
Well Robbo that is bloody obvious.

As is often the case Mallard you are making statements, with the exception of the two year contract, that you have no idea that they are factual but of course that helps to stir the s**t.

Now there's a voice of reason m a I 100% agree with that. What are people doing having a go at Simon Bird, he was not available end of story. He had a great game on Saturday and was clearly MofM which is a common occurrence for him and I am sure he would be in the first team squad if his work didn't get in the way. A great example to all the young lads in the reserves squad.

I think Setch is getting an unfair deal from the supporters. He started the season with 15 players plus the likes of Jack Frohawk and Alex Clunan. He had little choice in getting rid of/ letting go John Sands who as all who saw him this season he wasn't fit and was not doing it for the team. Most supporters were very happy with Sands/Mettam up front, he also brought Quigs back and he has not let us down, even though he has rarely played in his desired position. McWilliams is hopefully here for the season and has already proved a fans favourite.
On Saturday Setch had three injured, not playing, and three playing with injuries,Gary Mills, leaving eight fit players. For sixty minutes we were much the better side but had to substitute Gary Mills who played very well, and his replacement Eoin McQuaid had a decent 35 minutes. The three injured players were feeling the pace, but still gave their all, and Kettering brought on some very useful, fresh, experienced players and managed to win 2-1. We could have been 3 or more up before they scored. Somehow everyone has leapt on Setch's back and believe he is to blame for everything, no shirt budget, six injured players, Sands being a waste of space, everyone wanted him signed. It is ridiculous. Trying to get any player in he has to put in seven days, then speak to the lad and try and persuade him to sign for Lynn, probably takes fourteen days before he plays. They turn us down for any number of reasons and he has to start again, if he had a bit more sponsorship money he might be better able to persuade them, who knows.
According to most who saw the previous three games we were fantastic, under the circumstances, and yesterday could easily have won the game we didn't, and Setch is rubbish again, pathetic.
As for Bonnie, slip of the pen there Mallard, that was at level five and level three is a completely different ball game.

Right wing/midfield for reserves. For a 17 year old he is fast and strong and a great prospect, hopefully he will be back soon. The tackle was a red card as was the one on Tom Mcleish i was right beside that one and the Downham lad had no intention of winning the ball. Tom did well to stay on the pitch, mind you having been with the reserves since the club reformed he knows how to handle himself.

On the bright side there is a groundsman, he did leave but has since returned.
