Agreed Loopy. Reminds me in a way of John Gidman, who had all the charm, banter and one liners and look how that ended!!

Did it end? I seem to recall an ongoing dispute for some time afterwards Gidman claiming he was sacked and Dollimore claiming he resigned. Gidman adamant he was still owed thousands by Lynn. Never a dull moment with those two involved.

Mark Cozens was a regular in the side when his dad John was manager in the late 80's.

And with those 4 goals in a week Barrett becomes our top goalscorer for the season.

Goals can be seen on BT Sport 7pm tonight

Thanks for the heads up. Was good to see the goals again, albeit to a backdrop of awful Strictly puns. At least that show finishes soon and the press will have to find a different angle for their headlines.

That last line worries me.

I genuinely hope I'm proved wrong, but having the intention of playing league football is not the way to run a non league football club.

Having the intention of building a  club that attracts enough fans to support a team capable of competing at the highest level that club can reasonably afford, would be a more achievable long term goal.

Sounds like promotion at any cost.

Where does that leave us when it all goes belly up,  again?

Spot on Kevin (meant to post that on you post on the Crouch Report thread too), personally the fact that it was included in the advert merely highlights the continuation of the fantasy rather than 'showing ambition' which is how some may choose read it.

B&G, I am not really sure your interpretation would apply to the football manager post as there are far, far too many things that are (or at least should be) outside of their remit, if the job advert was for an operations manager / CEO then that's a different matter.  As for someone doing their homework, that would be the big concern in terms of the sort of candidates we would appeal to as I can't see the club appealing to an experienced manager so the question is then would an up and coming manager want to come in now or maybe take the gamble that the post will be available again at the end of the season?

Yes, Tony, agreed. The whole 'building the club' piece is beyond the manager's role and in the current model as far as I can tell resides with one man.

Whether you agree with it or not, league football has been Mr Cleeve's stated goal ever since day one so perhaps no surprise to see it in the manager's job advert.

18 month contract, so if he can't get the goals to keep us up we're trusting him to get the goals to get us back up next season.

For those of us of a certain age, getting to the first round proper is still something of a holy grail. Only the 4th time we've done it in my 36 years of supporting and 1 of those was thanks to a Covid bye!

"After starting the decade as a Step 7 outfit, Sports now find themselves top of the pile at Step 3"

4 promotions in 21 months, that is some going.

Any home draw, you have got to be pleased with that. Certainly could have been a tougher opponent, but we won't be taking our opponents lightly. I'm sure some of us can remember the likes of Parson Drove and Woodford. Woodford's keeper sent off, an outfield player took his place, his first job was to pick the ball out of the net after we scored with a deflected free kick to go 1-0 up, ended up losing.
Its a clever move by Mr Cleeve to reduce the admission. Who knows, maybe Taylor will take his place on the bench too.

Mick Czuczman scored from the free kick I think, then it all went wrong. Woodford's outfield player who went in goal, from memory, played like a cross between Pat Jennings and Peter Shilton and we couldn't find a way past him!

And on the subject of giantkillings, 30 years ago this year, for Peterborough Sports read Boston FC and for Michael Gash, Jim Kabia!
