General Discussion / Re: ⚽️ F.A. CUP ⚽️
« on: October 12, 2022, 08:58:58 PM »
i aggre with much of what JohnH says, this game is going to be no push over I believe I hope
I am wrong we must get an early goal I think to put our stamp on the game.Talking of
games from the past, an FA cup one very similar to this one a team the same area,
West Auckland Town. This was the first game for Chuck Martini a  wet day he dropped the
ball from long high cross, and the forward said thanks out of the cup, I hope history is'not repeated.

Do I remember a story about Lynn not taking the West Auckland defeat too well and locking them out of the bar after the game, so they had to go to the Seven Sisters to watch the draw for the first-round proper on TV?

So many cup upsets over the years. I'll chuck in March Town United at home. Was only an early qualifying round but an embarrassing defeat nonetheless during Peter Mendham's short spell as player-manager.

certainly will stretch pockets  i will choose 3 games or possibly 4  as cant afford all of them  the cup game is one i wont attend

The perrenial October problem. A month that often brings games in various cup competitions. Too many away draws and chairmen lament no income for weeks on end; too many home draws and it's the fans who may have to pick and choose the games they attend with a knock on effect to matchday income, a large part of which of course, has to be split with the oppo in Cup games.

General Discussion / Re: Bedford at home FA Cup (Setch’s return)
« on: September 15, 2022, 09:52:40 PM »
Thoughts? Setchell and the other ex-Lynners will be pumped and their team mates will be too on their behalf. Other than Clunnan, the 'Setch Factor' will be largely wasted on the current Lynn squad. So Bedford will edge the motivation stakes.

Tommy may look to give a start to Barrett, Charles etc who may use it as a chance to prove a point or it may disrupt the successful way Lynn have been playing.

This one has definite banana skin potential in my opinion.

Prediction? There will be less than 22 playes on the pitch come 4.45PM!  :red card:

Attendance may be boosted by some lapsed Linnets, although Heacham are at home so perhaps not.

Should we make it into the hat for the 3rd round qualifying draw, will it be moved from its usual Monday lunchtime slot?

Anyone who rather stay in this league than be in national League got be off their heads I’d rather national league than this tin pot one

Boston might disagree. They like this league so much they have hung around for the last 12 years.

but I would still like to see the addition of a more physical presence in midfield, not a 'thug' before Dilly wakes up but all our midfielders are on the small size

And usually popular with the fans that type of player; Paul Raynor, Steve Mclaughlin, Darrin Wolfy Clarke!

Our opening home game, the last time we were at this level pulled in over 1100.  That was after we got a 3-0 away stuffing at Guiseley on the opening day.

Surely that’s the least there should be

But then we were playing step 2 football for the first time in over a decade and still riding the wave of the super play off promotion. Now we're on the back of a relegation.

Good move by SC.  Give something back doesn’t do any harm.   Anyway Lowestoft are now only a step 4 side.  The same as the likes of Dereham, Gorleston and Wroxham

Step 4! Can you believe it? Not long ago they were pushing for league football.

Whatever happened to them so they should fall so far so quickly?

2 seasons in the conference north with a highest position of 16th https://www.fchd.info/LOWESTOT.HTM. If that's pushing for league football we must have been practically kicking the door down!

What happened? Eastern Counties League side with an 'ambitious' chairman who ultimately realised it wasn't sustainable? See also Histon FC...

It’s all ifs and buts, but the fact is we’ve had two disappointing seasons at this level. We’ve had some very memorable seasons in recent times, so lots of good memories. Going forward I don’t feel TW is the right man, his style of play isn’t attractive. His body language in post match interviews along with excuses, ie pitch. Well I remember Lynn v Paget Rangers (we won 2-0) on a much worse pitch.

Paget Rangers! There's a blast from the past. There were probably more Lynn fans in attendance v Paget than there were v Grimsby Town too. Gold & Barrett or McNamara & Hudson?

Can't believe earlier today this would have been a concern one way or the other but I now have to ask the question - presumably Gyasi can't play against us next week?

Yes, it's been a strange day!

Last night's point I believe gives Widdrington as many points from his first 10 games in charge as Culverhouse got from his 17 games in charge this season, 2 wins, 2 draws each. Progress then of sorts but I guess not at the rate necessary to keep us in this league.

Biggest Lynn exodus to Kettering since Peter Morris left and McNamara, Hudson and a few others followed
