General Discussion / Re: u21/RESSIES
« on: June 09, 2021, 04:54:33 PM »
Name some players over the years who came through  reserves.

Mark Howard 80s Andy Hunt 90s both went on to play football league.

Defty bros would have played a lot of res football before breaking into the first team.

We've also seen many reserves step up to effectively become the first team for short or not so short spells over the years when a manager has left and a large swathe of his first team have followed him!

But as others have said never has the gap between first and reserves in terms of divisions been as great as it is now. How many other full time National league sides have a second string playing in a step 6 league? The times are a changing at the Walks for sure.

Been very reliably informed that the U21/Ressies has had the plug pulled on them. So whats the good of telling all these youngsters to join the academy if you want to play for KLTFC. What chance is there of being elevated straight into the 1st team directly from say the U19s? Surely if a player is that good he will be scouted by someone far bigger than Kings Lynn.
Sad day, the last time this happened i believe was under the Gary Mills leadership.
On thge plus side the teams such as Fakenham, Swaffham, Downham etc will surely benefit from this folly.

Pretty sure it was during the Peter Morris era that the club decided to run without a reserve side. A reserve team had returned during Gary Mills' tenure, playing in the UCL reserve divisions, with Paul Ramsey in a player-coach role I believe.

Top scorers were Mariott and Mitchell both with 8 goals. Lowest amount since Dave Gregory also top scored with 8 in 1988/89, a season where we scored a whopping 31 league goals all season. Dark days they were!

Bourne to Ipswich. What an horrendous journey.

Ipswich Wanderers moved to the Southern Division at their request

Evidently there was too much wandering for the Wanderers!

There's some journeys in there for step 6 football. Huntingdon to Sheringham, Bourne to Great Yarmouth

These Covenants are not as difficult to get removed as they used to be.

If it made the Council a few Bob, and released the Council from their responsibility towards the  Walks Stadium, my money would be on it being possible to do.

Only runs to 2024 according to a story on the Trust News pages. Would be a massive loss IMHO and any move would have to be sustainable, we don't want a Nene Park situation on our hands. Town centre grounds should be embraced but maybe I'm just a legacy fan!

From Mr Cleeve's weekly column in last Saturday's EDP:

"we have decided to freeze all prices other than add £1 to the price of adults and concessions tickets on a match day. This £1 is a donation that will be ring-fenced and will go towards repaying the debt incurred this season in government loans."

Loan expired and returned to Hull around the time McFadden joined us.

News of former Linnets / Marcus Newell

Have just seen a few clips of today's Vase final, Cleethorpes well beaten by South Shields. Noticed that Cleethorpes manager is Marcus Newell. Pretty certain he played a few games for Lynn in the early 90s? Most of the squad came from the Grimsby area in those days.

Just been told that he managed you for a few years. What was he like ?

He is having a bit of a tough time here at the moment as the footie is poor and the results likewise.

I think he can turn it round and I like his football ethos.

Fond memories of his time here. Took charge when we were bottom of the Southern League Premier (pre Conf North / South days) and led us to the 'Great Escape'. Perhaps unfortunate in his one full season in charge to come up against Steve Evans' Boston United; although Mills did lead us to THAT Boxing Day win at their place. Left us early the next season following a budget cut and we were relegated within 18 months.

News of former Linnets / Jack Friend
« on: September 12, 2016, 04:12:24 PM »
According to today's EDP Jack Friend scored his eighth goal in four games for Wisbech v Mildenhall in the Vase on Saturday. Michael Frew also turned out for Wisbech and Steve Spriggs for Mildenhall. Report also mentioned Luke Kennedy, name rings a bell, was he on loan to us at some point? From Peterborough?
