Thankfully the 2020-21 season has now history and we can all now look forward and whilst we still can't say for certain what capacities, regulations etc will be in place for 2021-22, the chances are it will look more like pre-pandemic football as we knew it.

Whilst the pandemic seems to have galvanised some fanbases, that doesn't appear to be the case at the Walks, streaming numbers were low (even before furloughing the bulk of the squad), the FotL seem to have hibernated and the B&G Trust paid over the GDF funds but have still been pretty quiet (albeit they did at least publish their accounts in lieu of a full AGM).  Hopefully with restrictions easing both supporter organisations will hold their delayed AGMs well before the start of the new season and either individually or collectively come forward with ideas as to how the fans can be more engaged with the club and give a route for those fans that are willing to help support the club financially.

General Discussion / Gash & Jarvis leaving at end of season

Gash and Jarvis can't commit to Lynn next season

Would just like to thank them both, some of the football that has been played during their time is probably the best ever witnessed at the Walks and both lads have more than played their part in the club's rise to the NL but squads change over time and neither is getting any younger.  Best of luck to them both, wherever they end up next year

General Discussion / Home to Solihull (with fans)

So, aside from the attendance - which I think will be small reflecting the lack of anything riding on the game and still concerns over COVID - what are we expecting from tonight?  Note on the front page saying McAuley is back available after suspension so will IC revert to a back three that he started with on Saturday or go with another forward from the start given we are at home with fans in?

My team (and can't see this being the starting eleven):
Richardson (sorry for my typo gs)
   Fleming, Barrows, McAuley/McFaddon
Howard, Clunan, Payne/Babos, Denton
              Gash, Jackson

With it being not much more than a pre-season game the disappointing thing is that there are probably very few of the squad playing for their place as I expect most to be moving on with the exception of McFadden (if fit tonight), possibly Clunan and maybe Jackson has done enough to warrant a place next year?  Could also make a case for Denton and/or Barrows but will travelling distance mean there are other closer / cheaper options of a similar ability?

General Discussion / Chesterfield (away)
« on: May 11, 2021, 02:21:05 PM »
Hopefully get one more ticked off tonight as we get ever nearer to the end of the season.  Chesterfield didn't look that impressive at the Walks last month but did enough to win which probably sums up both club's seasons.

Preview on the club site  says we are missing Baggot again due to Ipswich's progression in the FA Youth cup - whilst their cup run couldn't have been predicted, he does seem a strange signing as he hasn't looked NL level (mainly down to his age) and we are very unlikely to see him back at the Walks for 2021/22 so, to me, it was an opportunity missed, maybe at the time it was just a case of getting bodies into the club?

Good to read in SC's column in the EDP at the weekend that the recruitment and scouting team has been bolstered, certainly one of the areas where we are well behind other step 1 clubs, fingers crossed they and IC can put together a better squad for next season

General Discussion / Stockport 13.4.21

Tough trip tonight, particularly after the loss of Mitchell and to a lesser extent Davies who might now have featured more with Kairo's departure.  Somehow IC needs to turn the squad he has at his disposal into a competitive eleven but it looked pretty difficult on Saturday once McFadden went off and will he be risked tonight even if he did get the all clear from the QE on Saturday evening.

My team (for what it is worth)

Howard, Fleming, Baggott, Denton
         Coleman, Payne
      King, Carey, Babos

I think Coleman and Howard have shown they are more than capable at step 1, Babos had a good game Saturday in his first start but still question marks about the fitness of King, Gyasi and Kiwomya as I don't think any of them can play a full 90 minutes at NL level.

General Discussion / home vs Chesterfield

Probably a fair result on the balance of play but given that Robinson hardly had a save to make Lynn will be disappointed at dropping the point(s).  On the positive side Fleming had a good game and Babos looked OK on his debut but we didn't play as well today as we have recently perhaps understandably given the changes to the squad and the loss of McFadden midway through the first half.  Still not at all convinced with Gyasi but I suppose he is getting a proper chance to prove otherwise and a shame that the final chance fell to Kiwomya who really doesn't look fit which doesn't bode well with the departures over the past few days

General Discussion / Dover
« on: March 26, 2021, 05:27:51 PM »
Just to cheer SC up on a Friday afternoon, the NL have decided to slap Dover on the wrist (with a hanky), OK it's a 12 point deduction and 40K fine but compared to the costs KLTFC and others are incurring to complete the season the NL have shown themselves (again) to be completely incompetent.  So, Dover can now start planning their 2021/22 NL season and budget whilst Lynn, Wealdstone etc have to continue to go through the motions, racking up costs that will have to be found from somewhere (next seasons budget?)

General Discussion / Two more in
« on: March 22, 2021, 05:31:58 PM »
Bit more movement on the player front -

So a centre half and a right back/holding midfield player.  Don't think anyone can argue that they are needed given we went with three forwards on the bench at the weekend (and will now lose Mitchell for a couple of games).  I suppose the other question is whether either is likely to be available for next season or are they just 'filling in'?  Appreciate we need bodies now but for me, the more we can use this period to try and shape the squad for next season the better as it's pretty clear that the squad we started with this season needs some major work if we are going to be at least competitive next year.

General Discussion / Substitutes
« on: March 14, 2021, 10:57:57 AM »
Has anything been said anywhere as to why we didn't have more subs yesterday?  Whilst I can understand IC's comment a couple of weeks ago about throwing a host of younger lads in together having a detrimental impact on their development, I think the same could be said when they look at a bench for a home game with only 3 subs, one of whom is a 50 year old keeper.  Are we really saying Bastock is a better outfield option if we had an injury near the end than, say, Joe Taylor?  Personally I don't understand why the lads who have signed forms are not included in the match day squad, even if it was just for additional cover.

General Discussion / Linnets Donation Pledge
« on: February 23, 2021, 04:37:10 PM »
So, the club's latest response to the NL continuing and the lack of any further grant funding is "The Linnets Donation Pledge"

I appreciate SC is between a rock and a hard place in terms of how the NL's has responded to the COVID situation but this just smacks of more of the same without addressing the mammoth sized elephant in the room - for whatever reason KLTFC supporters seem unwilling to back the club sufficiently to sustain the costs of NL football.  Maybe once a decision has been made after the weekend those inside the club will sit down and reflect if the current approach is the right one in terms of financial viability going forward but all that can really be seen from the outside is that the model as it stands doesn't look sustainable.

General Discussion / Power on the move?
« on: January 13, 2021, 01:53:14 PM »
Seems Harrogate are keen to take him off Norwich's hands on a free.  Guess it works for Norwich who still retain an interest if he does go on to 'bigger things' with a sell on clause but equally don't feel its worth their while exercising the option to keep him for another year

Article says Lynn have offered to match his wages for this season which doesn't make any sense to me but maybe others will have a different opinion.  Personally I still think he has a lot to learn and either Simon Weaver thinks he can turn that potential into consistent performances or is just taking a gamble on a free transfer opportunity.  I guess time will tell but I do wonder about the people behind the lad as there seems to be a lot of hype which doesn't always translate on the pitch (even dropping down the ladder he hasn't been a consistent starter)

News of former Linnets / Alfie Payne
« on: November 27, 2020, 02:12:31 PM »
Alfie Payne has moved to Lowestoft during the lockdown

Never thought we quite got the best out of him, maybe he didn't have the physical stature required to replace Jarvis but certainly had the footballing nous to fill that role (outstanding in the York home game when he came off the bench and just made us tick all day).  Wish him all the best and think if they play him deeper than we did can see him opening up defences for Hawkins and others to get a hatfull.
