General Discussion / Re: Cirencester on Saturday

Mettam showed flashes of quality on Saturday, but he is often up against a big strapping centre half !
He would clearly play better off a decent target man. We seem to have 2 decent crossers of balls now, with Revan and Jacek, so with possibly better distribution and a few more players back, we could do better.

Good choice Grissles. How about the theme from Going Home (Mark Knofler) !

Despite some blaming the ref,  we were poor today ! Lots of passes going astray, poor ball control, and umpteen balls up the air to nobody ! Cirencester were there for the taking,  They spent most of the time defending, with rare visits into our penalty area. They had one good chance and took it ! (Only there 12th goal of the season). We have to do better, otherwise we will be at best, a middle of the league team.

It's a massive blow having Matty injured. However the club has to try and move on.
At least we will have some players back on Saturday, with hopefully a stronger bench.
Now being out of 2 cup competitions, we can concentrate on a big push up the league.
Come on you Linnets !

It was a fantastic effort against Alfreton - Big Sam and Dan Quigley were both outstanding.
It is difficult to judge our good our team is with several players  missing.
In a few weeks time most of our players will be back, and then we can judge the real strength of the team.
We need to concentrate on getting in the top half, well way from the dreaded relegation zone !

Good comment Coastal. Anything is possible over 90 minutes. With a bit of luck we can do it !
We just have to accept, that within our budget we have make do with what we have got.

Can we perform a miracle on Saturday!  Against all expectation, our patched up team with a few youngsters
have done well this season. It will have to be 110% from everybody, and with a bit of luck, who knows !
Will we have any of the injured back in the squad ?

Understating the crowd, and skimming a bit of the top was common in non league foootball years ago.
Does it still go on ?

With the appalling sums of money in top football, greed naturally follows. Look at FIFA and EUFA !
Top footballers earn enough to retire after one season !  This is wrong !
I remember when they earned 100 quid a week, and it was thought wrong then !
Will it ever be sorted ?

It was another patched up team performance tonight, but in the end a point was about right.
We could have stolen 3 points at the death ! We will need a big improvement on Saturday.
If only we had the 5 who are currently injured/ banned ! Because our bench tonight was very light.
Despite the problems Setch is somehow keeping us mid table !

General Discussion / The season so far
« on: September 26, 2016, 01:14:38 PM »
We are now roughly a quarter of the way through the season. Having started badly we quickly recovered,
with patched up teams and using the youngsters. If we can only get a fully fit squad out I am sure we can do even
better. In the past we have had a decent bench, but this season with injuries and sillly red cards we have often struggled. However there are encouraging signs - Saturdays magnificent win showed what we achieve. Let's try and get well into the top half, AND hopefully have a cup run !

After that shocking start to the season, Setch and the team have surprised us, despite injuries and
having to use some of our talented youngsters. We are now in the top half (just) - can we stay there ?

An excellent win away at Chesham. Can we get another result on Tuesday at Biggleswade ?
However lets understand, it's a long tough season, and we will do well to finish in the top half.
But with a limited budget, and crowds of only 500, and a small squad, injuries and suspensions
could restrict any outside chances of ever getting promoted. I am sure that Setch would love
to have an experienced squad of say 18 players. However we could have a cup run !
