General Discussion / Re: Manager sacked
« on: February 26, 2017, 06:54:43 AM »
Stech did a great job in getting us from nowhere in 2010, to our present level, for which I am sure, every fan will thank him. However in football, if you are ambitious and want to try and get promotion, then tough decisions have to be made. The league table does not lie. We have won only 10 league games all season (6 at home). This is not good enough. Some of the performances at home have been terrible. The chairman is clearly very ambitious ! Time will tell. Let's wait a season, and see what happens. It wold be interesting to come back this forum in a years time !

Our present squad is simply not good enough to mount a promotion push. We do not create enough chances up front and our so called strikers have not scored the goals. Our defence for over 2 seasons now has been under too much pressure,  because any clearance up field, comes straight back, because of a lack of height against the opposite centre halfs. We were just going nowhere with Setch (just mid table at best).

I have to agree. We had  been been for a long time waiting for for Setch to turn things around. But his poor recruitment of so called strikers, meant we were relying on midfielders to score the goals. We now have to support our local team, and give the new manager time to build a stronger squad.

General Discussion / Re: Dan Quigley gone

I agree that despite his previous problems, Dan Quigley on the pitch, was one of the most committed players I have seen. Always gave 100%. We could do with that attitude from all of the squad. As we all know, the defence in recent months has looked fairly solid - Its creating chances up front that is the problem, plus a striker to convert them.

Setch is probably paying the price for recruiting poorly last summer. We didn't hit the grounday running ! but instead were handicapped with poor results, which took us months to recover (ok we had injuries etc). We are also handicapped with having Mettam on contract ! We will need hopefully a top replacement. Wait and see I guess !!

Yet another draw, which means we have now lost only 5 of the last 28 games ! Of the 23 games undefeated,  a lot of them were draws ! We have probably drawn more games than any other team at our level ! If only we had that magic striker to turn draws into wins, we could have been in the play offs ! At least we are safe from relegation ! Oh well next season then !

Surprise surprise. We have desperately needed a striker since the start of the season. If we could only have turned some of those draws into wins, it may have been a different story this season. However we need to concentrate on keeping all of the quality players in the squad for next season, and add a striker ! Easier said than done. I wish Setch well in finally getting that man.

General Discussion / Re: King's Lynn Town V Leamington

Tremendous defensive display by Lynn. We should have had a penalty. The ref was poor. We had several fouls against us, but time and again failed to get a free kick. Form like this would be great if we had got some points earlier in the season. We have now lost only 4 games in the last 21.

Excellent highlights. Very professional ! More of the same please ! For those who missed the game, it is a chance to see a bit of history. When was the last time Lynn were 5 up by halftime ? I cannot remember.

Finally we have thumped someone - but too little too late. (Missed tonights game - attending a funeral down south). If we had got to 40 points a bit earlier in the season maybe we could have done a Ranieri and pushed on to the playoffs !

Agree that Alex Street is one of the best keepers in our league, and one of the best in Lynns history ! Stopping goals is one thing, if only we could score more goals, instead of all those draws !

What a disaster today. We were never in it from the first minute. They were quicker to the ball, passed better, and gave Alex Street no chance ! Playing with just 3 at the back left us completely open. We still do not have a natural striker. The season started badly because we recruited badly in the summer and now we have gone to pot, Sands no good, Mettam likewise. Setch has a lot to answer for !

We are clearly missing a fox in the box with say 20 plus goals a season. Clunan is now our top scorer with 10! Which is good for a midfielder. But we need a regular goal scoring striker. Mettam has failed to do the job - and we have him on contract for another 18 months !! We are simply not scoring enough goals, and are drawing far too many. As I predicted earlier in the season, we will finish half way on maybe in the top half.

Late goal denies us the 3 points, but still another point. Thats 13 games with only one defeat. Great effort from a squad that is going places ! Keep it up lads ! Bonnet de douch !!

After a poor start to the season, when at times we had a bare 11 ! (including kids on the bench), we now have a good strong squad.
Its taken time to get it together, but there is now competition for places, with a strong bench. The chairman and the gaffer should take some credit for getting the right players in ! We have now gone 12 games with just that 1 defeat away at Gateshead. we can now push on for hopefully a good 2017.
