General Discussion / Title Triple Starts with Terras!
« on: January 18, 2018, 09:29:52 AM »
Lynn are at home to Weymouth this Saturday in the first of three matches that should show us if Lynn can win the Southern Prem title.

Weymouth, in third, are strong contenders for promotion themselves and despite Lynn apparently dominating possession in the match at their place earlier on this season, still beat Lynn 3-1. In fact, Lynn have not beaten Weymouth in the last five matches played since Lynn re-joined the Southern League and who could forget last season's home game when Setch, getting his tactics wrong, saw his side thumped 6-1.

Weymouth are in good form: unbeaten in the last nine matches and have the league's current top goalscorer (if you exclude penalties) in Brandon Goodship with 18 from open play. They also have the meanest defence in the league: 21 goals conceded and only 12 away from home in 12 matches.

Don't sound good does it!

Any predictions? For me, this game has draw written all over it or possibly a Weymouth win: Lynn will dominate possession and Weymouth will hold out and catch them on the break.

General Discussion / Frome Away

They held us at The Walks and appear to be a decent, mid-table side. The highest placed team that they have beaten at home is Stratford. I expect Lynn to win, although it will be a tough one.

General Discussion / Title Favourites in Action this Evening

The bookies favourites to win the Southern Prem outright: Hereford are in action away to Stratford this evening. On paper you can't see anything but an away win at the mid-table side, so any points taken by Stratford will be a massive bonus for Lynn.

General Discussion / Will January Decide Lynn's Season?
« on: December 27, 2017, 01:15:06 PM »
Lynn's fixtures for January are: Away to Kettering (2nd); Home to Dorchester (20th); Away to Frome (9th); Home to Weymouth (3rd); Away to Hitchin (7th); Home to Hereford (4th).

What a tough month! How Lynn deal with these games will tell us much about their title/promotion credentials but will January decide their fate?

General Discussion / Lynn away To Merthyr
« on: December 22, 2017, 02:20:05 PM »
Two recent draws suggest that Merthyr have started to stabilise after all their recent problems. This is always an awkward away trip. Another banana skin or will Lynn come away with all three points?

General Discussion / Are Lynn on Track to Win the League?
« on: December 20, 2017, 02:50:13 PM »
Last season, Chippenham dropped 35 points (5 defeats/10 draws) on their way to winning the title.

The season before Poole dropped 45 points (7 defeats/12 draws) when winning in 2016.

Lynn have dropped 18 points at exactly the half-way point (4 defeats/3 draws) so, on that basis, the stats are encouraging. Although Lynn have lost a greater proportion of games than the previous two champions, they tend to win more and draw on fewer occasions than Poole or Chippenham.

Don't know if this will work but it's advertised as broadcasting a match commentary.

My own football commitments are keeping me away from matches at present so hope this works! Need me fix! :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:

General Discussion / Why isn't Mettam scoring goals?
« on: November 28, 2017, 04:49:26 PM »
Leon Mettam has scored 3 league goals this season: all of them in September before he got injured. He has not however scored since his return, yet Culverhouse still picks him. What positive impact is Mettam having on the team and why does Culverhouse refuse to even try Gash and Siddons ( 4 goals in 5 league starts) together? With Mettam misfiring at the minute he surely has nothing to lose?  Do Mettam and Gash look like they will come good? Is it just a matter of being patient? I realise that Mettam will run the channels better than either Gash or Siddons but is that the reason why he keeps Mettam in the side? It baffles me to be honest.
Normski: this is not moaning just trying to get a chat going? I am interested in what supporters think.

General Discussion / Lies, Damned Lies & Statistics
« on: November 22, 2017, 07:07:44 AM »
Tom Siddons: 7 goals from 8 starts = 87.5%

Leon Mettam: 5 goals from 13 starts  = 38%

Michael Gash: 5 goals from 17 starts = 29%.

Gash and Mettam are the favoured pairing. Should Siddons feel himself unfortunate not to start more regularly?

General Discussion / Southern Premier Favourites on TV

Be interesting to take a good look at the current Southern Prem favourites 12 days before they play Lynn at The Walks.

If it goes to a replay, will they have to play during the same week that they visit Lynn? We have to travel to Gosport on Tuesday 12th Dec.

Hereford have dropped away in the betting: Slough now favourites with Lynn and Kettering in second at 7/2.

The changeability of these odds shows you how open this title is.

General Discussion / Home to Royston

Beat Lynn at their place and are on good form. Are currently in 14th, although if they win their games in hand, they could be top 8.

Looks like a tough one!

I hope that no game on Saturday results in a "decent" crowd tomorrow. I'm going for 2-1 to Lynn and 700 attendance.

Their left back used to play in a youth team that I ran over twenty years ago and the last time I saw him play he was 14.

I reckon seeing me will put him off his game so will hover that side of the pitch.
