General Discussion / Re: Guarantee Play offs
« on: August 09, 2016, 12:26:45 PM »
I don't think that these fans will "suddenly" appear. This was your choice of word not mine. But I do believe that Lynn has the potential for bigger attendances and that the chairman
believes that too. It remains to be seen whether this will be achieved and I presume that you feel that this is not a worthwhile objective for the club.

" A different world!" What world is that? One with ambition for success. Aim small achieve nothing. With the right strategies Lynn could do better than Step 3 complacency.

Mallard: I've  have no idea how much budget Setchell has. Lynn have a lot of young players in the first team squad:many of them local. Can you win anything with kids? I like seeing the local youngsters in the squad but are they step 2 players of the future? Kern Miller is a big loss; will Mettam compensate at the other end? We are weaker at the back but stronger up front. I'm sure we are a top 10 side: play offs? Outside chance for me.

If the club will benefit from our custom - going to a pub before the game instead  to save a few bob is disloyal  -  then all fans should get in the bar before the game. The chairman is clearly putting his hand in his pocket and doing his bit; genuine supporters of the club should do the same.

Mallard:I'm 50:50 re:Hilliard and Zielonka but that  isn't relevant to my point.

So you're a representative of the "many" Mallard? I don't think that you should assume that you and the consensus of  opinion on these issues are one and the same. You think Hilliard is more effective than Zielonka. Fair enough that's your opinion; it isn't necessarily what the majority of supporters think.

Mallard: of course Boston must be working with a bigger budget. On a player by player comparison they were generally superior all over the pitch. Are you implying that you agree with my assessment  that they looked like a coached team whereas Lynn didnít?

Robbo84: I agree about pre-season not being particularly significant; just calling it as I see it so far. But to be honest I am a little disappointed in what I have seen in these friendlies. I know Boston are a bigger club who were unlucky not to be in the Conference this season but they looked like a side that were well coached and frankly Lynn didnít. For me the Boston game demonstrated how far Lynn have to go and I can't see us doing any better than last season. Of course, I hope I am wrong.

I haven't been that impressed by Mettam in pre-season, although he hasn't had much service:certainly not in the games that I have seen. He seems to enjoy running onto back four splitting passes but just hasn't had enough of them. I can see that he would probably benefit playing alongside a bigger hold-up type player like Sands. He needs a partner.

So what you are saying Frontman is that Sam has failed at a higher level and has ended up at Lynn in the Southern Prem.
My comments were based on what I have seen from Sam whilst playing for Lynn. Past "glories" are irrelevant.
Sam is a decent player but I think Lynn have stronger centre back options. I hope that I am proven wrong and that he has a blinder this season.

I thought that Gregg Smith played quite well. He has shed a bit of weight and defo had an impact.

Toby Hilliard: man of the match! He took his goal well but makes poor decisions in the final third.

I'm not convinced by Sam G. He lacks pace; has poor distribution and throws his arms about when outwitted by an opponent as he tries to pin the blame on others. I think that Quigley and Castellan  or Fryatt and Castallan would make better centre back pairings.
