General Discussion / Alfreton FA Cup

Well, I know this is a contentious issue for many........for those of you who believe we should just survive this year, a cup run will be important.
My stance is that staying up there in the league will keep interest and attendances high, which should cover the 15k or so to be made from 2 rounds of the cup... assuming we can get past the Reds. I believe we have a chance of being in the mix in the league at the business end.
I think most of the players could do with a break, so I would use all the squad and two ressies and go for:

Bastock/Street
Wing backs   Shipp (?)   and Barrows
Centre backs Fryatt,Jarvis, Smith
Midfield  Richards, Carey, Payne, Kelly
Forward Stewart
Subs Joeseph  Taylor, Jones, Marriott, Bastock/Street.

Would play 3 5  1 1 with Kelly the one behind Stewart.
Jones for one of the centre halves at half time, maybe include Gilbert on bench and give him 20 mins at end to give another centre half some time off.

There, said my piece, now you can all shoot me down in flames !! :laughcry:

General Discussion / Missing a Trick
« on: September 15, 2019, 11:14:06 AM »
Just reflecting on things.
Lynn have one of the best managers ever.
Also one of the best squads ever.
A chairman who has made these and other positives happen.
Huge catchment area for fans and business.
With sufficient funding the on pitch set up would be capable of getting to step 1 and off pitch significant investment would be required.
These set of circumstances may not be around for that long, due to player age and individual ambition.
Is the town and surrounds missing a huge opportunity here and do enough people out there really care about the club.
Is an attendance of 1000 home fans really the best the area can do for a side top of Conference North ?
Aren't there enough businesses in the area to throw a bit of financial clout into the pot to make a significant difference ?
If ever there was a time for things to really crack on off the pitch, this start to the season really should provide the incentive and impetus.... wouldn't you think ?

Is the draw for the second qualifying round tomorrow ?
Soham Town Rangers at home would be good.

Probably good to get this really long trip out of the way while the weather is reasonable. Pitch will hopefully be decent .They are still to find their true form too.
Will we be able to find another top drawer performance in those tired legs ?....hoping so.

General Discussion / v Telford line up
« on: August 16, 2019, 09:33:49 AM »
Interesting one this, with both IC and Telford manager commenting on how jaded teams looked mid week.
Can't help feeling Hawkins deserves a run out...has been quite prolific in past seasons.....maybe give him the 2nd 45 ?
Think we might see Barrows too.

General Discussion / Sponsorship
« on: June 09, 2019, 08:51:25 PM »
I have just been trawling thro some of the National North websites. It's very noticeable how most have a supporters fund to supplement the playing budget.
Even the smaller clubs eg Guiseley, have 5 or 6 sponsors..home kit, away kit, media, ground, etc etc

Any news forthcoming on how sponsorships are progressing I wonder ?

General Discussion / Reserves

How do people see the Reserves fitting into the scheme of things, I wonder......now 4 steps between them and first team and with no prospect of promotion unless there is a name change ?

General Discussion / St Neots

Thinking that Lynn need to get the squad players more involved, as we may need them during the play offs and the odd 5/10 mins at the end of a game isn't enough for them to really bed in.
How about keeping the same defence, but including Limb and Hawkins ( if fit) along with Mellors Blair, Parker, Jones and maybe even Robinson as target man in the starting eleven. Radical I know, but if we are even or down a goal with 20 mins left in a play off, we need to have subs who are ready to make an impact and have a bit of confidence from some game time.
Thoughts guys ??

General Discussion / Banbury

Pretty poor result, given how many chances were missed and how much possession we seemed to have.
It often seems the case that 5/6 chances are missed for everyone that gets put away and very often the opposition goalie is credited with "having a blinder".

I guess today's result won't count for too much, as Lynn only seem capable of 2/3 wins on the trot. The best scenario is probably win a couple of the next 3,  lose at Stourbridge and then win the 3 that really matter.

General Discussion / Barwell
« on: January 14, 2019, 09:52:01 PM »
Feels important to get back to football chat.
I am no expert on tight hamstrings, but on the assumption that  Michael Gash needs another week's rest, what team set up is most likely for the visit of Barwell ?
I was a little surprised that IC didn't go with Marriott and Hawkins down the middle from the off against Royston.
Any thoughts ?
