Hardly for the sake of it....worst defence in the league at present, though admittedly a seemingly improving picture, tho remember we made a decent start to the season before a slump.
Lynn need to find more consistency in the defending.
With the greatest respect to Barnet, they are not currently at the level of Sutton or the time we next meet a top side, we could do with a defence that can stand up and compete for the full 90.

11m  over 3 NL  divisions can see that being used to satisfy the nine clubs that have been complaining of being short-changed.

I am not so sure.
The NL committee seem very upset with the way the dissenters have behaved......I suspect the money will be distributed to every club in a similar manner.

The problem for a part time side will still be trying to play at that level Tuesday- Saturday.
I think they will struggle to achieve the level of Tuesday... hopefully they will do enough to win.....Lynn really need to start taking 3 points from the lower teams in the league, especially after the disappointments of the Weymouth and Wealdstone encounters.

Think the only reasons for him not playing Saturday would be paperwork issues, or if IC feels he needs a little longer to get to know what the league is about (as he said with Mair for the first two matches).
McFadden seems like he will be integral to the side, so would expect him to be a regular pick before long.

We do either need better defenders or our existing defenders to defend better...... picking up at set pieces, not allowing yourself to be rolled or turned etc.

We are being done for pace and also for strength....this is most often from tall big strong players who can also turn on the gas... it's called being a full time professional...your small little nipsters Dilly have been in the minority in the games I have watched..

We have a young team largely brought up on part time football......some have the pace, but not yet the required strength, some of the older ones, the strength but not the pace. Ideally for this league you need the majority of your side to be 25-28 yrs old, big, tall, strong , fast athletes who are comfortable with the ball at their feet...not much of an it :laughcry:

Not yet fully back...."just on the fringe".

Just hoping we don't have to "comb-over" problems resulting from being "too short at the back"  at the end of tomorrow night's match.

I am "rinse"nably hopeful of a result if we "cut out", basic errors and "trim" down the number of "snip"sters in midfield, but if we do win I am expecting it to be a "close shave".

Time for a Marriott masterclass...we all "mohican" do it.

Sorry for posting such drivel and "bald"erdash...... lockdown is obviously finally getting to me !

Btw ....has anyone been to  Barnet Fair .....or is that a thing of eons ago ?

The stream may not have made the cut, but the highlights are bound to be good at Barnet.

Hi Non League......yes that line up and train of thought is similar to what I have been advocating. Think it would work well if the defence was more reliable, but the line up could do with extra support for the far, little evidence of Loza, Power or King tracking back and getting solid challenges with that line up I could see us losing something like 7-4 !!!

Hi Tony,
Yes we need a new system, problem is , as I see it , we don't have the personnel on board yet to make it happen.
Personally not sure that Smith has the pace for this league.
When McFadden arrives, could see him playing alongside or  just in front of McCauley and Lupano.
Think we need another full back and a ball winning midfielder....we have a lot of similar players in midfield....I think one or two will be released and replaced over thecoming months.

When you have strong, tall, fast players rampaging forward with the ball Dilly over the course of a long 90 minutes you have to have some means of stopping them and winning the ball back, before your slippery nipsters can go up the other end. Your slippery nipsters wont get within 2 feet of these players...they will just hold them off.
Since we are not currently in a position to recruit, faster, stronger, nippier players than the opposition, being as we are, part time, less affluent than many and a bit out on a limb geographically and new to this league......we have to find ways to compete.
IMHO you are seriously underplaying the importance of physical toning and full time training in your arguments.....but  I love reading your comments tho, nonetheless.

First thought is we need a few more players who can impose themselves on a game at this level.
Up front, we are not badly equipped... Mitchell, Marriott, Southwell and Gash to come back.
But we lack a pacey ball winner in that I mean someone who will race back, put in a hard tackle, win the ball and turn defence into attack. The pacey players we have (Power,Loza, King seem a bit lightweight in that regard.......that in turn puts more pressure on the defence).
Virtually all of the established sides have 3 or 4 tall, well built pacey strikers/attacking midfielders. In most cases they are full time professionals and after 30 minutes of dogged resistance our back line is just buckling.
We need McFadden.... we may need another couple of new defenders in addition to bring us into a position where we can keep teams at bay.
It's a very steep learning curve for management and players alike when trying to get the required performance level on a consistent basis.
Can we honestly say that there is one stand out player who looks a good N L player at the moment.....this is the great challenge that is being laid down and to which players need to aspire to. It's a huge ask, when they are part time and have to fit training around their work schedules.

We may need a different plan in terms of how we play., as discussed in another post..we can't go toe to toe with the top 6/7, home or away at the moment....but by the same token, all the success so far has come from playing an open passing game and scoring more than we concede.... that's the dilemma, how to tighten things up, without taking the familiar style (which is the team's main strength) out of the side and maybe we just need to be more of a counter attacking side this season, as also mentioned before....however to do that, you still have to have a secure back line.

In the end it just may mean having to replace 5/6 of the side and jettisoning those that are still bit time players, who are not imposing themselves on a game sufficiently and consistently.

Battled really hard, but just ran out of steam as time went on...against men training full time......similar pattern to Solihull.
Agree with Jesus, away from home against the top7/8, it has to be defend like lions, clear the lines quickly and look to hit sides on the break with the pace in the side.
I am hoping McFadden will be part of the missing link...a strong, fast no nonsense tackler who is good with the ball at his feet and can find the pacey men.
Lynn are a small side ......the likes of Gash or Mitchell are going to find it hard to hold the ball up in this league, when they are the only forwards in the side with both real strength and height so it will be difficult to mirror the pattern of play that got us two promotions.

McAuley rather than Smith, I feel.

Also don't feel Kelly has  quite done enough to force his way into the side at this stage and take the shirt away from one of the others.
