Alfreton lost their unbeaten home record on Saturday....here are their manager's thoughts:

Thought those that believe players can't possibly be fatigued might enjoy this !

Well I believe you have seen the IC interview Stan. He said Gash wasn't fully fit but put in a tremendous effort and that the goals came from crosses where the forward got across their marker.......so to say Fryatt wouldn't have done any better seems a little bit unfair on the player.I assume you were at York and had a different view to IC  :dontknow:

Some will point to the FA cup matches as an excuse for the defeat today (tired legs, injuries etc.) but as the York manager said before the game and Culverhouse said afterwards: it's all  about what you do in the attacking third and the defensive third and York were better than Lynn in those areas today. Lynn will learn from this and will come back stronger. Still confident they'll make a play-off place which would be an extraordinary achievement for a first season at Step 2.
Agreed Stan. Final third may have been compromised a little by Gash not being fully fit and the defensive third by Fryatt's injury...(think we may have played 3 recognised centre halves at the back if they had been available). But as you say a great learning experience

Good impartial BBC Radio York praised Lynn for the football they played with no sign of fatigue, there was no player investment in the cup? Lynn have played 3 tough games in 7 days and should be proud of a Draw, Win and a loss to a full time outfit. Any suggestion that the cup matches led to this defeat, is as daft as the idea of resting pre Alfreton. Well done Lynn for a good weeks work. Next time a player gets an knock in a League, or cup game, we should assume he should not have been there, AND WOULD NOT BE INJURED IF HE WAS NOT PLAYING FOOTBALL!!! . League and Cup, both vital to this club at the moment.......
Glad you finally agree with me...knew you would get therein the end  :laughcry: :laughcry: :laughcry:

Well no great surprise today with the result, though it sounds like Lynn gave a decent account of themselves.
Tough enough playing away to a full time side of 26 pros who have had a full week to prepare for what they see as the most important fixture over the last couple of weeks, but
Lynn with a squad of 16/17 and missing Fryatt through injury and Gash just returning from injury ( both as a result of the cup) only had 3 days off and two really tough encounters with Alfreton in the week.
You just can't have it all at this level with a small squad, however brilliant the coach or talented the players.
Just hope the 'player investment' in the cup run , really pays off now.
Lynn still sit third in the league and have a decent draw for the cup next week ..all to play for....onwards and upwards COYL !

It was mentioned by WLM in an earlier thread that the FA offers a Stadia Improvement Grant....is this where the grant has come from ?

Never take anyone for granted in the cup....but they play in Wisbech' s league, 2 steps below, so a good draw at this stage.

Actually looks pretty awful weather forecast for Tuesday...but assuming it all goes ahead then I will go for
3-1 to Lynn if Gash plays and 1-0 to Lynn if he misses out.
Attendance around 500 if weather poor.

Thank you Dazza for your considered and well put reply and I respect your opinion and can see where you are coming from. I just feel, that maintaining a highish position in the league would have a significant impact on attendances and income, even during the winter.
The Alfreton encounter has already in someways had more thrown at it than the York game. I was advocating giving key players effectively 2 weeks break to recharge and a clear week to train and plan for York.  Now the players will have played twice in that time, with limited time for preparation for York. I just hope there aren't further complications arising from Tuesday.
As we have said before, it's all about opinions, this game of football.

You started the thread because you believe a cup run could be negative for the club, and that you feel the players need a rest. This is just silly, as confirmed by the more positive responses available here. A cup run can only be good, even the potential of TV rights if the run gets going.
If the run really gets going, then the pay off would undoubtedly be ' game changing' in terms of what the club might be able to do in future seasons. Let's hope it does.
We can return to the situation as it unfolds.
At this moment in time, nothing has really happened ....ie no extra revenue and one (hopefully) minor injury.... let's see how it unfolds. The thread is not meant to be overly negative Realist, but to strike a word of caution, that cup runs are not always as beneficial as first thought.
