General Discussion / Re: Saturdayís Trophy game now on at Alfreton
« on: December 18, 2020, 09:14:15 AM »
Yes the timing of this match is really awkward...we could do with another NL fixture this Saturday to build on the Torquay performance.
Away to Alfreton in the Trophy to my mind is a "no win" fixture...and that's no slight intended on Alfreton.
Lynn have little to gain from the fixture or the Trophy this season IMO...and it won't be an easy game...Alfreton are whole hearted, up and at em physical team who will give their all, even if they are struggling in the league currently.
Do we play the same side and look for consistency in selection or give others a run.
McAuley and Fleming could probably do with 90 minutes, and I would probably give Gash and Mitchell 45 each.

Given the gulf between the NL and the rest of non league football and the fact that Lynn are finding it tough to reach the required levels consistently, I personally would prefer as few games against lower league opposition( where we can take our feet off the pedal) as possible.

I suspect the confirmation from the NL has only just come through and the situation was unclear before the Torquay game, so the club probably felt it had to take the stance it did........and re the kids, at least they have now improved that, for matches going forward.

Absolutely.....I would give that starting eleven a run of 3 games and then review.

Yes, very interesting going forward.
On the evidence of yesterday (and only one match in heavy conditions) we may not need 3 c h 's if we can stop the opposition from raiding down the flanks and putting the crosses in......that would gives us a much more balanced side, as yesterday. Gash returning is a big boost of course.
Which one of the other front players is going to prove the sharpest ? Southwell, Marriott and Mitchell have all missed sitters in the last 3 matches.

Yep, 2 or 3 of the 4 you mention will have to fight very hard indeed to take a shirt away from the present holder.

...and looking at the rest of the league, the vast majority had crowds in the 700's, so more the mood of the nation rather than a local phenomenon

First and foremost fantastic performance.

Potential reasons for lowish crowd:
Fear of virus.....rates increasing again...many fans of a certain age
Cost..not only price high (the kids issue was probably an error) but more importantly many have been hit very hard over last 9 months.....and it's an expensive time- Christmas coming up
Cold, wet day
Possible assumption that it might be another heavy defeat to a top side
Match viewable on stream...a much cheaper warmer, safer option

Mall...I haven't seen Fleming play....we will see if he is a reliable c h at this level... let's hope he is......if not we have imo one, maybe two, ch's in the squad who are good enough for this level......so no cover if one gets injured and if you want to play 3 at the back then you're struggling.

This (Injuries to the 2 Mc's) rather highlights the unbalanced nature of the squad. Yes, it's a real opportunity for Fleming and Smith to stake a claim for the shirt....but it is a huge ask.
Hopefully Fleming has a decent turn of pace about him.

Find themselves in a spot of bother at the wrong end, so sign Gloucester manager James Rowe who brings Akwasi Asante(remember him ) with him.

First match in charge is v Weymouth, Asante scores twice in the 2-1 win. Rowe likes the look of Tom Whelan in the Weymouth midfield, so signs him.

The buying power of a full time team, offering players full time contracts and the opportunity to play at a 10,000, all seater stadium.

Welcome to the big time Weymouth and Lynn et al !!
