General Discussion / Re: Barnet away Tuesday

Hi Tony,
Yes we need a new system, problem is , as I see it , we don't have the personnel on board yet to make it happen.
Personally not sure that Smith has the pace for this league.
When McFadden arrives, could see him playing alongside or  just in front of McCauley and Lupano.
Think we need another full back and a ball winning midfielder....we have a lot of similar players in midfield....I think one or two will be released and replaced over thecoming months.

When you have strong, tall, fast players rampaging forward with the ball Dilly over the course of a long 90 minutes you have to have some means of stopping them and winning the ball back, before your slippery nipsters can go up the other end. Your slippery nipsters wont get within 2 feet of these players...they will just hold them off.
Since we are not currently in a position to recruit, faster, stronger, nippier players than the opposition, being as we are, part time, less affluent than many and a bit out on a limb geographically and new to this league......we have to find ways to compete.
IMHO you are seriously underplaying the importance of physical toning and full time training in your arguments.....but  I love reading your comments tho, nonetheless.

First thought is we need a few more players who can impose themselves on a game at this level.
Up front, we are not badly equipped... Mitchell, Marriott, Southwell and Gash to come back.
But we lack a pacey ball winner in that I mean someone who will race back, put in a hard tackle, win the ball and turn defence into attack. The pacey players we have (Power,Loza, King seem a bit lightweight in that regard.......that in turn puts more pressure on the defence).
Virtually all of the established sides have 3 or 4 tall, well built pacey strikers/attacking midfielders. In most cases they are full time professionals and after 30 minutes of dogged resistance our back line is just buckling.
We need McFadden.... we may need another couple of new defenders in addition to bring us into a position where we can keep teams at bay.
It's a very steep learning curve for management and players alike when trying to get the required performance level on a consistent basis.
Can we honestly say that there is one stand out player who looks a good N L player at the moment.....this is the great challenge that is being laid down and to which players need to aspire to. It's a huge ask, when they are part time and have to fit training around their work schedules.

We may need a different plan in terms of how we play., as discussed in another post..we can't go toe to toe with the top 6/7, home or away at the moment....but by the same token, all the success so far has come from playing an open passing game and scoring more than we concede.... that's the dilemma, how to tighten things up, without taking the familiar style (which is the team's main strength) out of the side and maybe we just need to be more of a counter attacking side this season, as also mentioned before....however to do that, you still have to have a secure back line.

In the end it just may mean having to replace 5/6 of the side and jettisoning those that are still bit time players, who are not imposing themselves on a game sufficiently and consistently.

Battled really hard, but just ran out of steam as time went on...against men training full time......similar pattern to Solihull.
Agree with Jesus, away from home against the top7/8, it has to be defend like lions, clear the lines quickly and look to hit sides on the break with the pace in the side.
I am hoping McFadden will be part of the missing link...a strong, fast no nonsense tackler who is good with the ball at his feet and can find the pacey men.
Lynn are a small side ......the likes of Gash or Mitchell are going to find it hard to hold the ball up in this league, when they are the only forwards in the side with both real strength and height so it will be difficult to mirror the pattern of play that got us two promotions.

McAuley rather than Smith, I feel.

Also don't feel Kelly has  quite done enough to force his way into the side at this stage and take the shirt away from one of the others.

I liked the setup last week. Defenders defending resolutely with strength and good spacing, knowing their areas and roles, midfielders and forwards moving with pace and spreading the ball well into feet. Wonder whether we should adopt something similar for away matches in general.

If he's good with the ball at his feet he might be a natural successor to Jarv, so Lupano and McAuley with McFadden just in front

If club can stay at NL level or better, then there will be these type of occurrences on a much more regular basis

Yes, high time he pulled his finger out !  :laughcry: :laughcry: :laughcry:

Hopefully a turning point for the defence, who must be getting more familiar with each other and also of course have IC's top notch defensive input.
Still a few glitches during the game, but ultimately a clean sheet, away to a full strength, unchanged top 6 league 2 side

Don't really see the logic behind taking anything other than the strongest squad Tony. Really important to develop a system that works and to get the relatively new additions to gel.......the next game is Sutton on the 14th, so match time is important. Resting players, most of whom have only had 4/5 outings doesn't make a lot of sense.....we need to develop a consistent pattern of play and get some momentum going

By being in the NL, Lynn get a great leg up in the FA Cup, entering 2 rounds later than last year....then they get a bye to the next round. Think it has to be a case of play our strongest side and hope somehow to forge a win....the money on offer and the opportunity to progress further seems too much to not take seriously.

I would modify that....."Only in America....and in recent times the UK"

How about a future FA Trophy draw......Bedford v Lynn.........on a Saturday when there's a Scotland U19 match and the pubs are back open....what are the chances :laughcry:

Good competition in the midfield and front line...all pushing for a starting place.... hopefully Kelly will do the same when he gets a chance......needs a storming game or two with some goals and assists to match some of the others.
