General Discussion / Re: Stephen Cleeve - Are You a fan Yes/No
« on: January 18, 2022, 02:08:45 PM »
In the middle for me, but heading towards No. What he has done for the club up till early 20-21 season was great. Yes there were mistakes along the way, but that's often part & parcel of owning a club at this level as a one man band. Problems though for me started with the lights of football league just one promotion away. Reality was club of Lynn size is never going to get promoted anytime soon without the right infrastructure, so he wanted the club to run at this level before it could walk. Said it at the time when club went up, it should've concentrated on getting the foundations down, where if club went down first season, it was in a position to be challenging promotion back first time of asking, that now won't happen because the core of the group has been lost.

It was also a chance by doing that, becoming a respected club where likes of Norwich, Ipswich & P'Boro (but mostly Norwich with closer links) trust to send their better youngsters to play to get that first team competitive football. That's seemingly lost.

Whilst pandemic had some negative impacts on the club, it also had some major positives by both promoting the club to this level, and allowing 2 seasons to play. It could've been used to bled in youngsters, give players time to learn and prove themselves at this level. That free hand is now lost.

Proper amateur stuff this. Calling it now, manager will walk by end of the month because he'll realise quick how bad the set up is.

The same issues will be still in play in coming weeks. Good performance in keeping things tight by large, but so was things for majority of season under Culverhouse. It's the complete lack of punch in final third which will be the ongoing issue.

I really can't see the club being in a good place come summer. Relegation, stuck with players that are not interested, and the dilemma of either remaining full time or going back to part time.

Club is 10 points worse off at this stage than they were last season. For the outlay, that's dreadful.

Seems like he was bought in more for his contacts than anything else.

Drab 2-0 Aldershot win. Shocking weather, 700 fans max.

Its Stockport Tuesday, not many expecting any points from that, but at home to Aldershot and then Dover, its got to be 6 points, or even this early in the season, we will be to far adrift if we fail to win those two matches.
Definitely and IMO if nothing less could it be bye bye cully

Should be gone already IMO. 9 wins in 57 games at this level is poor, especially when it's his say on what this squad looks like. 39 points in 57 games. That wouldn't even be good enough to stay up in a whole season.

Think you have to sack Culverhouse, and get someone else in if you want to compete at this level. Some of the signings this season, suggest Cleeve wants to be at this level, so he now needs to bite the bullet and fork out the compensation.

Said it last season, for the quality that's been returned for money spent, club should've kept the side that got up and only added 3-4 players.

Ok so we sack Culverhouse.  Then what ?  IC left last time and look what the Chairman brought to the club.  Hardly inspiring was it.  Luckily. Back and Fryatt steadied the ship and Back had the foresight to broker a deal to bring IC back.

Just sometimes we need to careful what we wish for.

Going down the Man Utd road, sticking with current situation because of being scared of previous times. It's clearly not working on the pitch, signs were there last season. Why persist just because the replacement last time was bad?

Can see PS winning 3-1. They're a very good attacking team that are used to creating multiple chances every game, regardless of opposition. Confidence high infront of goal too. I know they're 2 levels below, but really they're basically a top 5 Step 2 side, and that's a side that can easily beat King's Lynn.

1-0 down in 15 minutes, 2-1 defeat. Just lack bite and can't see it changing at home.

It's a big step up, but when you are scoring goals you are full of confidence. A striker full of confidence is worth the gamble. Not going to give them the chance when confidence is high, when are you going to?

Will be a great loss if we lose Sonny. 100K doesn't go far replacing him at this level

Might not, but is Carey going to be the difference between repeating last season and staying up. Probably not, but 100k+ goes a LONG way to clearing the debt and ensuring club is a step closer to security in that sense.

Probably suspect the moves will start to happen a lot more after play offs are finished, and most likely when contracts end in June. Start of July going to be hectic, as I'm sure quite a few clubs will have the players lined up already but not announced for a while.

I'd have thought Chris Smith would leave if club goes full time. Thought that was one of the reasons he originally joined, the part time fitting around his studies/future work.

Good signing this. Should give the new look defence some solid structure with the communication, and ability to claim/clear crosses will be big.

One experienced player in the spine, now for the CB/CM/ST.
